But when we make a better examination, we will find that nonmainstream areas of inquiry such as astrology, fortune-telling and psychic have served to people's need and curiosity so much that it play an important role in our society.

Indeed, nonmainstream areas of inquiry like astrology and fortune-telling had a long history along with the history of human kind. From the Stone Age to feudality society, from the age of industry revolution till now modern society, nonmainstream areas exist all the time. For example, Oracle Bone Inscriptions in Chinese ancient society is one of nonmaistream areas of inquiry for auguring whether tomorrow is suitable for tour, marriage or even bath. There are still something like Oracle Bone Inscriptions in nearly every nation and every race of mankind. They come along with human to get through a long long history of innocence and wisdom.

Why are some people so favored of nonmainstream areas? The main reason is that nonmainstream areas of inquiry comfort people who worry about their destiny. In ancient times, knowledge about nature and cognition about ourselves were not so many as today. People may fear some nature phenomenon like rain or lightning, and be afraid of some physical phenomenon like sickness or death. Facing never-stopping time and our persistently ageing body, people may easily ask where we are from and where we are going to. So they ask for nature by something that they thought it would foreknow future, like star or crystal. Thus, nonmainstream areas of inquiry became an explanation for people's anxiety and saving for people's soul.

Ancient people found that something took place in the earth at the same time with something happened in the sky. For instance, the change of seasons has something with sun; the variation of tide is associated with moon; Nile's flow in every year is always after Canicula shining. They thought that every planet in the sky is possible for something in the earth, so here comes the beginning of astrology. When people had found some rules of planets and earth, of nature and human, they intend to seek more unknown things in the unknown world by the rules they had grasped. To some extent, it is exactly the way how people know more and more about themselves or the world, and even how human had developed science.

Moreover, with the rapid development, some of former curiosity or unknown had been explained by science. For instance, weather, Chinese ancient people thought that all the weather phenomenon are because of four dragon kings in the sky, and when they are in a sad mood, they will give a big rain; when they are in anger, they will give nothing but a drought to the earth. But now, all the Chinese people had been aware of that weather is nature phenomenon which was not decided by dragons or something like that. Although some have been answered by science, there are still many mysterious phenomenons which hadn't been understood by people, so that people will continue to seek by nonmainstream areas till all the things will get an entrance in science.

To sum up, nonmainstream areas of inquiry had satisfied some curiosity and answered some unknown with development of history. As William Shakespeare had ever wrote in <Tempest>, "We are such stuff as dreams are made on, rounded with a little sleep", there is no deny that people will continue to seek, continue to be satisfied by them since there are so many mysteries and unknown in our dreamlike life.
