Not as overwhelmingly popular as mainstream science though, such backstreet areas of inquiry as astrology, fortune-telling, and psychic and paranormal pursuits do satisfy, in some extent, human spiritual needs. In the today's world changing in nanosecond where mainstream science make humans' life increasingly convenient, acknowledging it or not, human almost live in a dull routine and always run in a rapid speed, leaving little time to themselves. And then depression increases, despair appears, and degrading happens. At this time, to solve the Achilles’ hell of mainstream science, such nonmainstream ones dip into their heart with some myrical and unfamiliar tools to explain the phenomena puzzle them, as a satisfaction. For example, a sentimental girl may feel got down to the world after breaking up with her lovely boyfriend. But when an astrologist tells her they are not suitable couples at beginning due to the incompatible astrologist of the two, she would be better off. In this sense, it is of little significant whether it is scientifically logical or not. After all, such nonmainstream areas of inquiry satisfy human, especially in extents that are addressed by mainstream science, even gregrorated by it.

At a social level, such areas also play an important part. On one hand, almost as products of ancient thinkers, such inquiry are considered as historic treasures and remain as unique prestige especially in the increasingly globelized world where everything in everywhere seems to be inclined to be the same, typically such as the modern development of science and technology. That is why such nonmainstream fields are popular in China, Egypt, Babylon and other countries with splendid long history. For instance, Feng Shui, an ancient measure in China to explain fortune with mountains and waters, is a valuable treasure. On the other hand, such areas serve the integrity of science. History is fraught with numerous mainstream science today sprung from nonmainstream ones, from hotly discussed to popularly accepted. Moreover, query whether those mainstream science are so called if there is not any nonmainstream ones. Accordingly, such nonmainstream areas play a vital role in both historic and scientific perspectives.

Admittedly, the reason why most nonmainstream areas could not be mainstream is primarily the lack of scientific evidences. It misleads people and replys some ridiculous answers to scientists when people turn to them. Although such areas confort people with curiosity, it can not be denied that the science would be ceased to develop if people believe the unscientific explanations at all.

In sum, people have to be tolerant to nonmainstream areas of inquiry for the satisfaction for human needs and contribution to the whole society in history and scientific fields, with a rational way.
