185"Scandals—whether in politics, academia, or other areas—can be useful. They focus our attention on problems in ways that no speaker or reformer ever could."
——提纲——
Politics: corruption, bribery, thaksin他信
Academia: morality 黄禹锡
Other areas: food of KFC sudan, batteries made by Sony for the Dell's notebooks
——正文——
It has always been considered that scandals, which are publicized incidents that bring about disgrace of an authority or famous organizations, draw people's attention only(感觉only 用在这不太好,distinctly) by embarrass those who concerned(用concerned的话,没有必要再加who,个人感觉有点多余呵~, those involved in) . However, I agree with the speaker as he/she contends(这里agree 和 contend 显得太罗嗦了呵,而且speaker 后面没必要用as he/she。I agree with that) that scandals--whether in politics, academia or other areas--can assist to highlight the problems in ways that differ from speaker or reformer ever could.(, as the speaker claims.)
To begin with, scandals in politics, which bereave numerous politicians' celebrities and approval ratings, actually play a vital role in warning their counterparts to avoid repeating (the)same mistakes. Although those leaders at the stage of politics always seem to be aboveboard, it is (totally or very)likely that they won the election (just) by bribery or other nauseous ways. Mostly, no speaker or reformer would arise up to reveal scandals of these governors as long as under the control of them, however, once the scandals are exposed to the public, the society would be (dramtically) shocked. The case of Thaksin will furnish a cogent example.(呵呵,学习一下,现在感觉不会说举例子。) As the billionaire leader of Thailand, Thaksin had suppressed the mass media to report(reveal好点,感觉) his corruption for a long time, but this policy finally led to doom of his own political life-- he (was obliged to step down)stepped down as accused by his opponents for abusing country's system of checks for benefiting his own family's business. With the tremendous change Thailand suffers by uncovering this scandal, its vulnerable economy dives deeper into swamps.(可以这么说么?可以的话,学习呵~) Indeed, without scandals are disclosed(语法错误,without 后面不能跟完整句子呵,without the exposure of scandals), society would in a superficially stable state under the control of government, but (转折意思不是很明显,而且和前面的without scandals 有点重复。应该是小结:In brief,)scandals of politicians can help people realize facts and prevent(promote) the society taking a further step to the deterioration.
When (it?)comes to the academia, scandals may also stir up the society in a short time, but will bring about meaningful things later. People always concentrate on how remarkable the success of a thesis or a research has achieved, but neglect to check its validity. Meanwhile, the speaker or reformer is busy in evaluating and praising those prominent scholars, hardly would they doubt the honesty of the respective researchers. (学学倒装呵~~)Nevertheless, the scandal of South Korean professor--Hwang Woo-Suk broke people’s idealism. Dr. Hwang obtained esteem for getting breakthrough in the field of stem cells research, but it was reported that his papers published one year before were fabricated. Besides stuns all over the world, this scandal also alerts people to take the moral standard of scholars into consideration when evaluate achievements and positive influence(s) they contribute to the society.
Also, scandals pollute every field, including the likes of business, food security, health care, and so forth. In spite of it is well-known to workers of producing food that the Sudan is a kind of additive which holds negative effects to consumers' health, it was still widespread for using in the food--until the Sudan scandal came out from KFC in China in 2005. The scandal certainly crippled the KFC's popularity among consumers, but what's more important is that people began to take experts' food advice seriously, for the public, especially young people, always regard those suggests as nonsense. (感觉语法不对,which used to be regarded as nonsense by the public, especially young people)Take the following case as another example. Sony's batteries, which are made for Dell's portable computers, led(to) several explosions and even endangered costumers' life at the global extent. With the increasing complaints and pressure from the public, Sony was forced to retract its batteries for examining the drawbacks and improving more advanced production. Obviously, it is scandals that promote those prevailing companies to ameliorate themselves and concern more about their costumers.
To sum up, whatever the areas scandals involved in, they will spur the public to recognize black sides of authorities and push them to punishment. Despite the annoyance rouse(d) by scandals at the early time, people will benefit a lot from them, and they can even become impetus of either individuals' or organizations' accomplishment.
