The statement falsely generalizes that the way people look, dress, and act reveals their attitude and interests. You can tell much about a society' ideas and values by observing the appearance and behavior of its people. However, I found this statement  lacking of reason and I cannot accept the view as it stands.

With the highly development of our modern society, the requirement of each job now is getting higher and higher. Besides, with the thriving of the global education, the graduates accumulate more and more as the limited jobs cannot meet the amount of graduates. Thus the competition is increasing drastically and the employees are trying to present the most perfect self the appearance, dress and behavior included. In this sense, they need to conceal their real attitude towards to the world and interests as   usual.  For example, when a happy-go-lucky person meets a job such as a judge, how could he show any laughing face on the lawcourt? Therefore the way people look, dress and act cannot reveal their attitude and interests in conditions of the occupational requirement.

Even conceding to accept that the way people look, dress and act reveals their attitude and interests in deed, we cannot tell much about a society's ideas and values by observing the appearance and behavior of its people. Duing to various surroundings and worldview diversity, different people have different attitude and interests whereas the society's ideas and values are very limited, the former spiritual things cannot reveal the latter definitely. The inherited culture or tradition also affect the society's ideas and values to a large extent or even possess the dominant place compared with people's attitude and interests to some extent. To stress this let's take a look at the living in Beijing--the capital of China. With the advent of 2008 Olympics, Beijing is becoming more and more open to the whole world and people there are merging into the big crowd. Adding to this, the interests and attitudes of public are changing, in their mind, only value every minute and grasp every opportunity can bring the new generation's value. At the same time, the general ideas and values of this society stays always, it disseminates the ancient atmosphere of old Beijing and we can experience serenity and harmony when standing in front of a ancient building. Thus we can see that public's attitude and interests may not reveal the society's ideas and values. Not to mention the way people look, dress and act will do.

However, the generalization of the statement is unconvincing and people's appearance and behavior cannot reveal either their attitude and interests or the society's ideas and values.
