TOPIC: ARGUMENT188 - A new report suggests that men and women experience pain very differently from one another, and that doctors should consider these differences when prescribing pain medications. When researchers administered the same dosage of kappa opioids-a painkiller-to 28 men and 20 women who were having their wisdom teeth extracted, the women reported feeling much less pain than the men, and the easing of pain lasted considerably longer in women. This research suggests that kappa opioids should be prescribed for women whenever pain medication is required, whereas men should be given other kinds of pain medication. In addition, researchers should reevaluate the effects of all medications on men versus women.

By citing a research on 28 men and 20 women who took kappa opioids after wisdom teeth extracting surgeon, the author suggests that kappa opioids should be given to women not to men whenever pain medication is required; and the effects of all medications on men versus women should be reevaluated. I find the argument is flawed in several aspects as I list as follows.

To begin with, the research involves only 28 men and 20 women. I doubt if research achievements from these people can represent a large population. Since a sense of pain is a very subjective feeling, everyone may hold a different standard from others. This difference may also exist in the research on the two groups of people, which means the 28 men's threshold of pain is lower than the 20 women's.

Furthermore, the author claims that kappa opioids should be prescribed for women whenever pain medication is required. However, the research author uses to substantiate to his conclusion is merely based on teeth surgeons. It is dobious to extend the effect of kappa opioids to all kinds of pains. Perhaps Kappa opioids has special effect on pains in mouth but has less use on others parts. Without convincing evidence to show the effect of kappa opioids on different pains, the author's conclusion is hasty.

Moreover, after suggesting that women are suitable to take kappa opioids, the author asserts that men should be given other kinds of pain medication. Similarly, this assertion is also baseless. It is possible that, comparing with other medicine, kappa opioids is the most effetive and with less side effects for man to treat body pains.

Finally, at the end of the argument, the author claims that researchers should reevaluate the effects of all medications on men versus women. However, such suggestion is neither necessary nor practical.  Based on a research in pain medication on men and women, reevaluating all medications' effects on men versus women is groundless.

In sum, the author's suggestion is unconvincing as it stands. To bolster it, the author should provide sufficient evidence to prove that these 48 people involve in the research can represent the others gernerally. Second, he should also offer us credilbe proof that kappa opioids is useful for all pains on women but is not the most effitive pain medicine for men. Also, the author should testify that if reevaluating the effects of all medications on men versus women is necessary and practical.

今天唯一值得欣慰的是,拼写错误少多啦!说明用的都是很简单的词。:vomit: :vomit: :vomit:
