Whether the technologies influence customs and ethics in our society and even decide them as well? In response to this issue, we need to comprehensively analyse the proposition from a dialectic perspective. The author's declaration seems to oversimplify the question. So the final judgment, in my point of view, should be determined by a case-by-case analysis.

Technologies and the system of customs and ethics are two wings of our society, both of which play an important role in sustaining the development of the society. On the one hand, the technology is a powerful impetus of the social advancement, bring us plentiful material comforts. For example, new medical technology caused by the science and technology improves the level of people's health and lengthens the average life-span of human beings. It can cure a great deal of diseases considered as incurable illnesses in the past such as Samllpox. Another eminent advancement attributed to the technology is that since the first industrial revolution in 1736, the mechanical technology completely altered the way of our productions with the help of efficacious implements and technics, tremendously reducing the burden of labors. On the other hand, customs and ethics can maintain the normal operation of the society, and especially when people are bogged down in the Sargasso
sea of war or disaster, the custom and ethic may be the sole regulation tool in the word. Considering the significance of them, the connection between them is always a focus of the debate between technologies and the system of customs and ethics after the word technology produced in the history.

To this debate, I propose that the technology do give customs and ethics a huge influence, because of the improvement of science and technologies. With the advancement of industrial revolution leading to a shortage of labor force, more and more women go out of their homes to the factory. With the development of media technology enhancing the communication of countries, persons not living in Christian countries also celebrate the Christmas Day every year. With the improvement of internet technologies providing a more cheap resource of retail, a great number of people have already opened their own chain stores in internet. We can easily find such influences in different fields.

Moreover, some new technologies have attacked the system of customs and ethics. Transgenic technology applied in cloning people challenges the principle of just and voluntary in the system of ethics, because the people cloned in the lab will be regarded as a implement rather than a real human being. The technology of unclear energy used in the war undermines the moral and ethic standard, intimidating the security of all in the world.

I concede that the influence of technologies is profound and significant. However, the technology never can determine the fate of customs and ethics now and in the future. Because morals and ethics grant people the capability of distinguishing between the right and the wrong and restrain the behavior of human beings, while the technology do not own a clear position and the function of them is decided by the motivation of people.If the nuclear energy mentioned above could be employed in the industry and daily life in stead of the traditional fuel such as oil and coal, it will contribute a lot to the development of our society and the environmental enterprise.


From the analysis made above, I strongly commit to the notion that the relationship between technologies and customs and ethics is not the simple decision one. As the development of technologies and the production, the custom and ethic must be influenced by technologies, and some outdate ones, impeding the development of our society, will change to cater the mainstream. Meanwhile, many new technologies, having nothing practical value recently and disobeying the moral standard of human beings, should be restricted by ethics and customs. How to tackle with the complex is relevant to a better society in the future. In a word, whenever we are, it is significant for us to see the disadvantage of the technology and the limitation of ethics and customs.
