Is it important to keep an eye on events happening around the world even though they may sometimes unlikely to form influence in one’s daily life? I deem highly of this assertion whatever “your” career is.

As a scholar, it is forever true that the more information you obtain, the more knowledgeable you are, which is even more significant in this increasingly complex modern society. In fact, nowadays, no discipline can prosper without an injection of new blood---a different prospective from some other subjects. For example, traditional chemistry now develops into biochemistry which requires knowledge in biology, chemistry, geology and so forth. We can hardly imagine a scientist brings out revolutionary invention or discovery ignoring what is happening outside his small isolated atmosphere.

When it comes to businessman, especially investor, it is even more truth that he needs to keep an eye on every event occurring every minute in every corner of the world. For the reason that with the advancement of international labor division, even a smaller deviation may result in a big casualty over the world. A good example is China suffered from a big snow catastrophe in the spring of 2008, which seems have not at all bearing with a futures businessman but indeed have far-reaching effects. Big snow resulted in poor harvest, which slashed down exportation of foods from china, which thence caused a price jump-up in the international forward market. Some informed traders grasped this chance and made money from it. Therefore, it is better to say, a shrewd businessman or not in modern society depends on if one can sense and diagnose from every single small event.

For politician, this statement has far more significance. There are more and more multi-national cooperation today over the world, especially in some big projects like anti-terrorist, global warming, human genetic research and so forth, all of which requires politicians today of paying attention to the events in every corner of the world. On the one hand, how can intimate cooperators know have no idea about what’s happening at the domain of his or her partner? On the other hand, for some bad things, it is pretty much better if we can handle them at the very beginning, otherwise, they will one day grow up into a catastrophe or a big headache. Such as the discharge of carbon dioxide, if politicians can notice and pay attention to it at the initial of widely application of automobile, and thence set up some laws regulate its exhaustion or organize scientists to study on it, there is a good chance that contemporary people do not need to suffer from El Nino today.

Thanks to the application of internet, we can now grasp as much information as we want and need without even stepping out of our room.
