First of all, I suppose that there lies a false dilemma in the assumption that human need and the conservation for the endangered animals contradict each other in influencing our choice of the land use. In fact, to save the endangered animals could benefit future human generations because precious gene resources are thus kept alive, also, through the conservation of endangered animals, the overall food chain on earth could be better preserved which enhances the chance of a sustainable development for human beings. In this sense, it will actually be a major agenda for humans to seek a win-win situation, to try to preserve the endangered animals while consider the human need in making decisions of land use.

Secondly, we need to clarify what the specific human need and the exact requirement of the preservation of certain animals and then to decide the land use. This means that we need to avoid addressing such issue simply based on some big ideas or theories, but need to study the specific case and situation. For example, in some Africa countries, the threat of hunger and lack of drinkable water still threatens millions of lives. Suppose there is a land that could be used for farming but currently a certain species of animal live there. Under such case, we indeed need to make thorough study of how this kind of animal live and how much value this land has for providing food. If researches find out that these animals could perfectly live in another territory after leaving this land and this land could be a major food source for local people, it will be quite reasonable to use the land for farming. Or of the researches suggest that the survival of this kind of animal would be greatly threatened if forced out of this land while there might be other land sources could be used for farming, in this case it will certainly be wiser to keep the land as to protect the live of the animals. In a sense, careful and thorough studies should be made according to specific circumstances in order to find a wiser decision for the land use.
