Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? In today’s world, to speak well is more important than to write well. Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer？

It seems like that we can do everything by speaking nowadays. Because of the rapid development of new technology, conversations are easy to make. Whenever we want to get in touch with someone, we can just take out our mobile phones and then a deal can be made. With the development of transportation, we can get to anywhere around the globe easily, thus talking face to face is an easy task, which makes many documents and papers unnecessary, since many things can be explained in the meetings. Admittedly, speaking is everywhere in our lives and it is really important, but these phenomenon do not guarantee that writing is less important than speaking. There are numerous reasons why I have this idea. Here I would like to explain a few of the most pertinent ones, as follows.

Firstly, writing is considered to be formal, which is needed in many circumstances. Because there is a record left after writing, most of the time we can not deny what we wrote, which is exactly opposite in speaking. That is why in a business negotiation, after all the talks, a contract must be signed. There is no denying the fact that speaking is of great significance in the process, we need to talk about every details before the final agreement can be reached. However, you can not say that speaking well is more important than writing well, because without a well-wrote contract, all the talkings are of no use. All the agreements are not settled unless a contract is signed. Furthermore, the contract must be written in a perfect way, otherwise others can take advantages of the flaws in your writing. In a word, in the business world, writing can not be replaced by speaking because of its unique importance.

Secondly, writing carries more emotions and sometimes is more effective than speaking. I insist that a thanks letter means much more than a simply "thank you" told by anyone; a love letter is more valuable than the sweet talks; when applying for a school, recommendations from others and a well-prepared personal statement are more useful than the big talks. From my point of view, when you are trying to express yourself, writing speaks more than the talk.

Moreover, in some areas such as the scientific realm or writers' world, to speak well is very helpful, but you are judged mainly by the papers or essays you have published not by the way you speak. Thus it is not difficult to understand that writing is more important than speaking in some areas.

From all the discussions above, I believe it is clear that to write well is as important as speaking well, if not more.
