Learn more from watching TV than reading books?

Accompanying with technology development, watching TV is becoming the dominant behavior in our daily life. Various TV programs attract people to spend more and more time on them which seems to replace other kinds of relaxation methods like reading. It is hot issue that people could learn more from watching TV than reading books. I totally disagree with it from three aspects listed below.

Firstly, watching TV has less selectivity. All programs on TV are provided by TV station which could have a schedule of performances. Once we turn on the TV set, we have to watch the programs on channels. If there is a sport game on 6 p.m., we could not see it at five; you could see the weather report unless the station broadcast it. In this case, audiences are like the receivers who have no capability of choosing their favorites. Oppositely, reading is more active. Readers who would not be constraint by time and position could read books wherever and whenever if they have. The contents of books could be selected before they buy and read. Thus, reading has more options for choosing than watching TV when learning knowledge.

Secondly, watching TV makes people less imaginations. Although TV programs like movies, operas, entertainments, news so on and so forth provides more reality video and audio, these lively images decrease the brain activities of audiences who have to receive the characters performed on TV without imaging. Some literatures comprehended by reader from words, sentences and paragraphs leave them space for imagination, but TV characters are almost directors' ideas. Less imagination or thinking could lead to senile dementia which conclusion is proven by scientists with numerous experiments. So, without imagination and thinking, how could we learn more knowledge?

Thirdly, watching TV needs more equipment. Books are cheaper and more convenient than TV set. No electric we could not watch TV but could read books under sunshine. On the subway or bus we could have more chance to read books than watch TV. Books could be more useful in leisure time than seeking a TV set.
Therefore, reading is more practical when we hope to learn more.

All in all, TV programs provide mass information but seldom knowledge. Reading is and will be the efficient way to supply us more we need.
