It was popular in the past that teacher’s responsibility is to teach students to acquire specific knowledge. However, being a teacher in high school for several years, I have experienced the change of publics’ attitude toward the ultimate goal of education. As my point of view, it is more important for a teacher to help students to gain self-confidence than to simply hold certain knowledge as following reasons.

To begin with, the ultimate goal of education is to help students to develop the ability of how to acquire knowledge from books as well as experiences from real lives rather than to hold certain knowledge itself. Self-confidence is an essential quality to one’s success as it can really inspire person’s courage and determination. While knowledge is always endless and advancing with times, people can never keep along the step with new eras without life-long learning. Only students gain their confidence which leads them to acquire more knowledge that can they develop their comprehensive ability in the future.

In addition, since the period of adolescence is very important in forming one’s character and adolescents spend most of their time in schools, the teacher play an irresponsible role in students’ grow. For example, the typical class in the past was like this, the teacher explained every main point while students listened and wrote down them passively. But now, sometimes I would like to ask some students who are usually shy and timid to explain a question to the whole class. Unexpectedly, students who are accustomed to old classes are favor of this new form. Not only has the one on the platform had an unforgettable self-challenge, all the audience also immerses in a positive mood. In brief, the most reasonability of a teacher is to help parents to develop students’ healthy characteristics.

In conclusion, from my own experience, I strongly agree with the view that the teacher’s responsibility is to help students to acquire comprehensive ability rather than specific knowledge. And self-confidence is the most crucial personality for students.
