There is a general discussion nowadays as to the fact that it is more important for a teacher try to help students to gain self-confidence than to teach them specific knowledge. Some people who advocate that specific knowledge is major responsibility for teachers argue that teachers should always keep focus on how to equipped their students with useful knowledge, but people who conscious of the key role the importance of self-confidence play, on the other hand, claim that devoting to help their students obtain self-confidence is the common standard of judging good teachers. Coincident with the opinion of many people is my heartfelt agreement with the standpoint that teacher should pay more attention on the status of students self-confidence.

In the first place, self-confidence is the prerequisite of achieving future success. There is undeniable fact that there are tremendous troubles in our life, such as health issues, work pressure, family problems and so on. The ways to solve these kinds of difficulties is not merely some specific knowledge, more important, is the confidence of fighting with them. For an instance, every athlete made an unbelievable performance during the 2008 Paralympics Games in Beijing. While people admiring their strong body, sophisticated skills, no one can ignore the confidence within their mind. One athlete who won a golden metal told Medias that the most valuable thing the coach can give is the confidence. Likewise, teachers should help their students construct the confidence to face with undesirable situations.

In the second place, self-confidence enable students build wonderful relationships with each other. As well known, it is the interpersonal skill that people should have when they strive for enviable career in the future, and confidence is the precondition to master this crucial skill. As can be seen in a statistics released by experts indicates that, more than 77 percent of managers who have strong interpersonal skill in variety of industries are all full of confidence when they do business with counterparties, and admit one truth that elf-confidence is the original power to achieve goals. We cannot emphasize the importance of self-confidence too much during students’ whole life. To the already familiar facts, abundant further examples may be added.

Holding the opinion that instruct specific knowledge is the most priority to teachers are those who deem that the more the students accumulate useful knowledge, the more they can contribute to society. Admittedly, on no account can we ignore the value of helping students absorb knowledge in school. Most students, however, are easy to be trained to have the self-learning abilities.

From what has been discussed above, though the acceptability that the advantages of teaching students specific knowledge are considerable, they cannot compete with the benefits that a teacher try to help students to gain self-confidence leads to, so we could safely draw the viewpoint that the Assisting students to gain self-confidence is more wisdom and important than teaching them specific knowledge.
