OPIC: ISSUE13 - "Many of the world's lesser-known languages are being lost as fewer and fewer people speak them. The governments of countries in which these languages are spoken should act to prevent such languages from becoming extinct."

I totally agree with the speaker's broad assertion that the governments of countries in which these languages are spoken should act to prevent such language from becoming extinct. However, why, you may wonder, should human beings spend a large quantity of money which could have gone a long way toward addressing pressing social problems on such these dying languages? Then, which way, you may ask, should we act to prevent such languages from dying.

Firstly, language is the core of one culture. As all we know, it is culture that distinct the human beings from the other animals. Supposed that if early men could not use languages, they would have no access to communicate with others of their group who share the same culture--nor even the other groups that have the different cultures. Just by gestures, eyesight or even the countenance? Obviously, it is not this case. But if one of them had some consequential inventions, how could they give this treasure from generations to generations? If so, the rate of culture developing would be much slower. The mansion of culture is consisted of innumerable blocks—ramification of languages. Therefore, the building would not stand if it were not for the function of such fundamental materials. As an old Chinese going says: It's impossible for an adroit woman to cook without any material.

In the second place, language is the most effective way to express our ideas and knows what others are thinking. Ideas and original thinking are the bed of all the innovative sciences ranging from smallest quantum physics to the most enormous cosmology and complex and perplexed humanities including art, literature, and any other aspects. What the world would be like without ideas and original thinking. It is impossible for human beings to listen music through the Internet; it is impossible for human beings to watch TV at home whenever they want; it is impossible for human beings to study at nights regardless of when it is—you just turn on the light and let everything be. All of these conveniences stem from the result of innovative sciences, then it will need ideas and original thinking, more importantly, language will support and develop the most primitive ideas and communicate these ideas with other people to promote them.

Further more, what could we intervene to save these languages? After all, in today’s high-tech world of satellite communications, global mobility, and especially the Internet, some strong languages have govern these fields; and people will choose these language as their first language for more pragmatic purposes with the lapse of time. It’s their will to do like these, not the force of government, nor the force of army. So, the governments have to deploy their resources to fight a culture battle, that is, offices have no choice to affords people a sense of pride, dignity, and self-worth by maintaining its own distinct languages. Moreover, the governments make people realize that we honor people’s heritage, enhance our understanding of history, and preserve certain ideas that only some languages properly convey.

In sum, we must and have to preserve our distinct languages regardless of how much price we have to cost. Maybe we will lose something, but we will gain everything.

However, why, you may wonder, should human beings spend a large quantity of money which could have gone a long way toward addressing pressing social problems on such these dying languages(these such dying languages)? Then, (加in)which way, you may ask, should (改成could) we act to prevent such languages from dying.

Firstly, language is the core of one culture. As all we know,(as we all know) it is culture that distinct the human beings from the other animals. Supposed that if early men could not use languages, they would have no access to communicate with others of their group who share the same culture--nor even the other groups that have the different cultures. Just by gestures, eyesight or even the countenance? Obviously, it is not this case. As an old Chinese going says: It's impossible for an adroit woman to cook without any material.(采用的假设论证,我觉得这是argument的论证方法,不知在issue里使用是否合适)In the second place, language is the most effective way to express our ideas and knows what others are thinking.
