13"Many of the world's lesser-known languages are being lost as fewer and fewer people speak them. The governments of countries in which these languages are spoken should act to prevent such languages from becoming extinct."
------------------------------------------------
Maybe the people who speak English or Chinese don't feel much about it, but it is definitely true that many of the world's lesser-known languages are being lost. Linguist Stephen Wurm argued that at least 3000 of world's 6000 languages are liable to be lost before the year 2100, in other words, one language somewhere on the earth disappears forever every two weeks. As an old saying that where there is a different language, there is a unique culture. A language is the key to the study and preservation of a culture. Such an emergent situation has caught the notices of enthusiasts and some appealing is presented to urge the governments to take actions to prevent the lesser-known languages from the extinction.
There are many factors that contribute to this trend. That fewer and fewer people speak them is an only superficial reason to explain the being lost language. The deep-seated reason may concerned with the colonization, where the colonizers brought their own languages there and set it as the official language. Even in the countries where there has never been any kind of colonization in its history, days for indigenous language is not good too. The globalization and modernization ask for more and more communication and interaction between people from around the country or even from foreign country. As a result, people have to turn to a widely used language, putting aside their own  dialect, to make themselves accepted better by the society.
Furthermore, since the situation is getting worse and worse, it is time for the country where these languages are spoken, to lay a hand to prevent the dialect from disappearing. The government should not only protect the language itself, but also improve the culture related with the language. The primary task of the government is to offer sufficient financial support and manpower to make record and study of the losing language as soon as possible. Moreover, it is more important that the government should build atmosphere in which people can speak the language with dignity, pride and self-confidence, and encourage the natives to use the language in writing books, songs, etc.
To sum up, it is the government's responsibility to prevent any language from extinction, and it is also the obligation for every one of us to take part in this preservation of our culture voluntarily.
