Human beings keep advancing from one generation to another. Therefore, children are in the dominant position of society's future development, and people do need them to bring us a better society. Yet to determine the destiny of society is not solely about how to socialize the children, and for the adults, to raise the children as what is expected is not just a simple thing to be learned.

Socialization, basically, is a general term for different ways and processes by which children learn to be a member of their social community. Since people cannot be totally isolated from the society, how they are socialized is indeed important to determine what their contribution to the society will be.
It may be hardly imagined that a person with no social relationship, no friends or cooperators and no ideas about the current trend of the society could devote to social progress. And an extremist whose ideas are mostly against the social norms and principles would probably become a common jeopardy. The increasing number of violent incidents taking place in school campus, for instance, is an apt illustration of the negative effects caused by the deficit of socialization. Most of the delinquent students do not have proper acquaintance of morality or social responsibility. And this might have been prevented if they had been appropriately socialized.

However, to determine the destiny of society, socialization is not the only factor. To some extent, socialization concerns more with how people behavior appropriately in social groups. But in fact,
it requires not only merging into society but also individual development as well to get achievements or even become one that will influence the destiny of the society. Unlike socialization, individual development emphasizes more on innovation and unique characters. Bing different might cause argument and competition, but it is through the contradiction that both people and the society get progress. The over-socialization would probably make people bogged down in the state of mediocrity and fail to develop more excellent ability to devote to social advancement. We need a better society, but a better society calls for more than an ostensibly tranquil and harmonious ethos. The true advancement needs top science and technology, stable political environment and high quality of people's life. To achieve all these goals, one has to possess some certain ability including enough professional knowledge, skills and leadership, which cannot be obtained through socialization.

Yet in this highly industrialized era, children's socialization is not a simple matter that only involves the family and school education any more. Children are socialized by their parents and teachers, but at the same time, children socialize themselves through their own experiences in the environment. Today the media and the internet have become one of the main accesses for children to acquaint a wider and more complicated world. Children might select TV heroes to intimate, or learn something about the society through web-sites that their parents will never teach them. Undoubtedly, children are being socialized in a more open and fast-moving environment. In other words, for adults, how children are socialized is no longer limited in "what we should do to socialize them".
Our responsibility has broadened to act as more than a guide or authority. We are protectors and facilitators at the same time to ensure the children to grow up and be socialized in relatively healthy and positive ethos. It is not the parents that taught teenagers to commit crime, but teenager delinquency is still increasing these days. Schools will never educate the students to shoot someone as a kind of solution of problems. We have known a lot and learned a lot to socialize the children to develop in the right direction, but the problem is that socialization itself requires children to live in the society, and how the children will continue to be socialized is hardly controlled by us.

Generally speaking, confronting with all of changes of circumstances, how children are socialized is not just one thing about what we should do to socialize them. It is more necessary that we help children socialize themselves during their growing period than to tell them what to do.
Therefore, whether we have learned the proper way to raise children is not that important as we thought in the cultivation of children who will bring us a better society. Or to some extent, it is even impossible for adults to get the so-called "real way" by which we can make children to be preeminent future builders. The whole situation has been beyond our ability to control. Perhaps what we should do actually is to adapt to the fast-moving world with our children during their socialization, and at the same time, we have to socialize ourselves.
