TOPIC: ISSUE157 - "There is no such thing as purely objective observation. All observation is subjective; it is always guided by the observer's expectations or desires."
WORDS: 380          TIME: 00:45:00          DATE: 6/15/2009 8:08:37 AM
The speaker asserts that no observation is purely objective. All observation is subjective, colored by the observer's expectations or desires. I agree with the speaker's opinion partially. In my opinion, there is no purely objective observation, as the speaker claims. However, observation can be both subjective and objective in some cases, not always subjective.
There is no purely objective observation. The observation is a process in which the observer look into the object using their feelings, thinking, analysis and summarizing. it is a process from objectiveness to subjectiveness. Subjectiveness plays an essential role in the process. Of course there is no purely objective observation. That is the very reason why different observers have different conclusions from thier own observation. There is an old saying," If there are one thouthand readers, there will be one thouthand Hamlets."
However, obervation is not purely subjective all the time. If our observation is always objective without subjectiveness, all our work in the scientific study is in vain. We can never get close to the truth. There is subjectiveness in the observation. For example, there is a table in front of you. Even though you expect it would be some delicious food, you still find it is a table through your observation. Though Yao Ming, a famous tall Chinese basketball player, may think a person with the height of two metres short, he would say that the person with the height of one metre is even shorter. Observation can be both objective and subjective, and that is the reason why we can get closer and closer to the truth. Our observation reflect the objects. We form our experience through the long time of observation, confirm our experience through the practice and guide our later observation. By this way, we get close to the truth through our observation. However, as I mentioned before, since there is no purely objective observation, no one can get to the truth. We can only get close to the truth unlimitedly.
To sum up, there is no purely objective observation. However, observation is not always subjective culored by observer's expectations and desires. Usally, observation is both objective and subjective. We get close to the subjectiveness unlimitedly through observation and practice, but we can not get to absolute truth since our observation is both objective and subjective.

放在这一段开头更好点)
To sum up, there is no purely objective observation. However, observation is not always subjective colored by observer's expectations and desires. Usually, observation is both objective and subjective. We get close to the subjectiveness unlimitedly through observation and practice, but we can not get to absolute truth since our observation is both objective and subjective.
