In this argument, the president concludes that they can increase sales by fortifying their Wheat-O cereal with soy protein. To justify this conclusion, the president cites a study that subjects who ate soybeans frequently have lower cholesterol levels, and reasons that they will increase sales by appealing to consumers who care about their health. However, carefully examine the president's reasoning, we may find this argument contains several flaws, which render it unconvincing.

First of all, the reliability of the study is really doubtable for two reasons. One is that there is no evidence to show that the number of the subjects is larger enough. As we all know, the smaller the sample, the less reliable the result is. The other is that we don't know whether these subjects are representatively. Perhaps the subjects who ate soybeans frequently exercise more than those who didn't. Or those who have higher cholesterol levels trend to eat food contains high fat. If it is the case, the result of this study has little support to the conclusion that eating soybeans frequently can lower the cholesterol levels.

Secondly, even if eating soybeans could help lower cholesterol levels, the president fails to assume that this phenomenon is due to soy protein rather than other components in soybeans. However, there is no evidence to show that the soy protein is the cause of lowering cholesterol levels. Without eliminating the possibilities that other components in soybeans may have the effectiveness, the president cannot convince me that soy protein is the most useful material.

Thirdly, the president overlooks this possibility that the consumers who are concerned about their health may have no interest in this new product. Those who care about their health may have interests in exercising or other healthy food rather than cereal with soy protein. If only fewer people would buy this cereal, how does the president persuade me that this new version could increase company profits?

Moreover, the president commits a hastily conclusion that this new version would improve the health of customers. Common sense tells us that a person's health includes many aspects, and high cholesterol level is only one of people's health problems. How could we believe that this new cereal could improve the overall health problems even if it can help lower high cholesterol level?

There is another problem that the president fails to consider the cost of producing this new cereal. Maybe it is difficult to fortify cereal with higher soy protein. Their company has to pay a lot of money on researching this technology. If the cost is high, they definitely have to raise the price of this new cereal. It is really suspicious that people would buy this high price cereal, then the conclusion that the company profits will improve is untenable.

To sum up, the president's conclusion is unconvincing as it stands. To better strengthen this argument, the president should provide clear evidence that the result of the study is really reliable and the lower cholesterol level is due to soy protein rather than other materials in soybeans. And the president should also convince me that people who care about their health would but this product. To better evaluate this conclusion, we should know the cost of producing this new vision cereal and the price of it when selling in the market.
