不多说了,问题多多,还请猛拍!

TOPIC: ARGUMENT56 - Collectors prize the ancient life-size clay statues of human figures made on Kali Island but have long wondered how the Kalinese artists were able to depict bodies with such realistic precision. Since archeologists have recently discovered molds of human heads and hands on Kali, we can now conclude that the ancient Kalinese artists used molds of actual bodies, not sculpting tools and techniques, to create these statues. This discovery explains why Kalinese miniature statues were abstract and entirely different in style: molds could only be used for life-size sculptures. It also explains why few ancient Kalinese sculpting tools have been found. In light of this development, collectors should expect the life-size sculptures to decrease in value and the miniatures to increase in value.

The author came out with an conclusion that it is the utilization of the molds, not the sculping tools and techniques, created the statues on the ancient Kali island. Accordingly, the author gave an causal assupmtion that it is the discovery explained why few sculpting tools were discovered on the island
and predicted an value variation of life-size statues and miniatures. However, after taking closer scrutinies, the assertion is specious.

Primarily, a discovery of used molds of actual bodies on the island may not necessarily indicate the way ancient Kalinese created the life-size statues. First, the author seems to be merely assuming the link between the molds discovered and the life-sized statues, since no further evidence reveal the similarity in details. Second, it is entirely possible that the life-size statues has close relationship with the sculping tools and technology, for the writer also fails to give adequate support to rule out the possibility.
Another compelling argument against the conclusion is that the discovery is not adequate to support the charateristics of both minatures
and life-size statues. The difference between the life-size statues and miniatures does not indicate the molds serve a convincing evidence. Yet, the individual style and the culture influence are possible reasons for the difference.

Last but not the least, the discovery fails to predict the variation in value and is of no tremendous significance to the colletors. The amount of such sculptures does play an important role on the market. Query, though, other possibilities should be also put into consideration. For instance, what the figure indicates is merely the circumstance on Kali Island and if different cases happen on a nearby island, the conclusion will be definetely challenged.
In sum, the argument is questionable at the following aspects: 1) whether the discovery of molds indeed indicates the sculpture on Kali needs to be confirmed. 2) the style variation could not be explained simply by the discovery. 3) the pridiction of the value of both life-style statues and miniatures seems unsubstantiated. Finally, the author have to give further information about the art form on Kali and the nearby region, at the same time draft a credible evaluation of the mold and show more details about the relationship between the statues and the molds.
