With thousands of years' development, the influence of tradition seems to be less and less in contemporary society. One might assert that there is no compatibility between tradition and modernization resulting in the consequence that one must choose between them. However, in my point of view, they are not completely mutually exclusive, but interact and rely on each other. We should take a balance between them rather than abandon either of them.

Admittedly, in some aspects, tradition may be out of date and benighted without keeping pace with the development of modern society. Throughout much of the history of Western civilization, deep-seated cultural beliefs allowed women only limited roles in society. They were considered to be better suited for childbearing and homemaking rather than for involvement in the public life of business or politics. But in fact, women are equal in intelligence. Under the efforts of women, such out of date concept that women were intellectually inferior to men are now given up by modern society. Thus, those out of date and benighted traditional things should be rejected.

Nevertheless, those kernels in traditional thinking are still preserved for the sake that they have active significance in contemporary society. For instance, the renowned book on military strategy-the Art of War, written during 6th century BC by Sun Tzu, has long been praised as the definitive work on military strategies and tactics of its time. Undoubtedly, it is seen as one of the kernel of traditional thinking. With many years gone through, it still has huge influence on international military thinking, business tactics, and beyond. Even leaders as diverse as Mao Zedong-the former leader of the People's Republic of China, and General Douglas MacArthur-one of only five men ever rise to the rank of General of the Army, have claimed to have drawn inspiration from the work. Thus, not all the traditional things should be rejected. Those kernel in traditional thinking with active significance should be preserved carefully in contemporary society.

In fact, tradition and modernization are not always incompatible. For instance, one of the martial arts-kung fu, was started in China over 2,000 years ago. Even in contemporary society, it has its own function about improving the mind and body. On the other hand, modernization, to some extent, is merely an extension of tradition or reformation based on tradition. As people says, "Rome is not built in one day." Mankind's civilization is successive and is handed down from one generation to another. Without inheriting the abundant traditional culture, there is no our advanced civilization. Consider the Four Great Invention of ancient China-the Compass, Gunpowder, Paper and Printing. They have changed the whole face of the world. Paper and Printing in literature, Gunpowder in warfare, and the Compass in navigation. They all put an impetus in the development of modern technology. Nowadays, these inventions are still playing vital roles in modern society after being endlessly improved. Without the traditional inventions, there would not be so many advanced modern technologies. Actually, as long as harmonized in a practicable way, tradition and modernization can contribute to the contemporary society together.

In summary, although some traditional beliefs are out of date, tradition and modernization can be compatible if people are willing to harmonize them. A viable way is to combine the active tradition with modernization and take a balance between them.

全文写的相当赞,分论点取的恰到好处,例子也写得相当得体,语言很流畅,没有找到什么问题,场上写出来肯定是高分。
