Issue40
Scholars and researchers should not be concerned with whether their work makes a contribution to the larger society. It is more important that they pursue their individual interests, however unusual or idiosyncratic those interests may seem.

5.总结

Such a topic reminds me to take a look around the world we are living in nowadays, and what I find is that lives more convenient than ever before are largely based on the contributions of numerous scholars and researchers' work.  Do or did they do these all only for their interests as stated above? Somewhat, I do prefer an opposite view that scholars and researchers should concentrate mostly on the larger society rather than their individual interests.

Primarily, standing on the top floor of the pyramid of mankind intellect, scientists have the obligation to advance the human beings' civilization by exerting their special knowledge.  First, what cannot be denied is that almost all kinds of science and technologies were born spontaneously or intentionally as a result of the mankind's survival needs, namely, the benefits of the whole society, which are both material and spiritual, not merely of interests.  Second, scholars and researchers, who are piths of the society and have mastered the most advanced knowledge, are the only ones able to impulse the mankind civilization forth.  Since human beings are still suffering for so many causes, it is necessary for them to concentrate on whether their work can do help with these problems and then make a contribution to the larger society. For instance, in the angle of physic, some diseases like ADIS and Ebola are still out of control; from the living aspect, inventions are far away to meet the needs of daily life.  Otherwise scholars would be condemned as selfish and incorrect if their work has nothing to do with the society benefit.

Admittedly, interests play a significant role in scholars and researchers work, which would appeal people to take the sake both enthusiastically and devotedly.  In lack of interests at the beginning and during the process, scientists would not even launch a subject, no more talking engaging in it.  Edison to be a great inventor is surely linked with his interests with DIY when he was still young, and so did Bill Gates, whose MicroSoft have transformed the whole world, have especial curiosity on computer operating system.  It is easy to see the effect of interests on spurring people up when facing difficulties and on directing them ponder further.

However, though to some extent, scientists' work are pursued for their interests, to over accentuate it and put the contribution to the larger society aside would be a regretful choice, especially when their interests are overwhelmingly idiosyncratic and beyond the normal scale, for such risky interests might lead to severe results.  A brutal example will be exhibited as following.  During the Second World War, Japanese biochemists, who were serving for the army, established several laboratories in the Northeast of China, where they applied bacterial and extreme condition (such as extremely hot or cold) experiments to alive Chinese captives.  Should these immoral and inhumane studies be developed for the interests of scientist?  Also, today there are some independent scholars are studying on clone technology on human body.  But before it is proven harmless to human bodies and the latent ethnic problems are solved, the research should be prohibited.

In conclusion, scholars and researchers should not carry out their studies only for chasing their own interests, by doing which they may drive human beings into danger in some cases. That should be more taken into account that whether the larger society would benefit from their researches since scientists are the hope for a promising tomorrow of mankind.(578 words)

Such a topic, this topic, the speaker 的字眼??

Since human beings are still suffering for so many causes, it is necessary for them to concentrate on whether their work can do help with these problems and then make a contribution to the larger society.

For instance, in the angle of physic 不过还是建议你用medicine,万一判卷官也不认识呢?], some diseases like ADIS and Ebola [这好像是一种病毒,而不是疾病吧] are still out of control; from the living aspect, inventions are far away to meet the needs of daily life. Otherwise scholars would be condemned as selfish and incorrect if their work has nothing to do with the society benefit.

It is easy to see the effect of interests on spurring people up when facing difficulties and on directing them ponder further.[

Primarily, standing on the top floor (个人以为floor可以去掉)of the pyramid of mankind intellect, scientists have the obligation to advance the human beings' civilization by exerting their special knowledge (是不是professional knowledge会好一点?). For instance, in the angle of physic, some diseases like ADIS (我记得艾滋病是AIDS) and Ebola are still out of control; from the living aspect, inventions are far away to meet the needs of daily life.(这些例子似乎只能证明human beings are still suffering,对于为什么it is necessary for them似乎缺乏力度) Otherwise scholars would be condemned as selfish (把消极怠工说成自私是不是有些的不妥) and incorrect if their work has nothing to do with the society benefit.

Admittedly, interests play a significant role in scholars and researchers work, which would appeal people to take the sake both enthusiastically and devotedly. In lack of (有这个用法么,我只知道lack of 和 lack in,献丑了)interests at the beginning and during the process, scientists would not even launch a subject, no more talking engaging in it. Edison to be a great inventor (Edison’s being a great inventor?不知道,呵呵) is surely linked with his interests with DIY when he was still young, and so did Bill Gates, whose Microsoft have transformed the whole world, have especial curiosity on computer operating system. It is easy to see the effect of interests on spurring people up when facing difficulties and on directing them ponder further(direct可以这么用么,要加to吧,不记得了,这一句放在这里更像是提出新的论点而不是在总结,个人感觉).

However, though to some extent, scientists' work are pursued for their interests, to over accentuate it and put the contribution to the larger society aside would be a regretful choice, especially when their interests are overwhelmingly idiosyncratic and beyond the normal scale, for such risky interests might lead to severe (这个词用得好让人怕怕,results out of control 会不会好点? A brutal example will be exhibited as following. During the Second World War, Japanese biochemists, who were serving for the army, established several laboratories in the Northeast of China, where they applied bacterial and extreme condition (such as extremely hot or cold) experiments to alive Chinese captives. (这个例子实在太糟糕,说得既不准确也不能说明问题,饶恕我的民族主义情绪吧,呵呵) Should these immoral and inhumane studies be developed (only)for the interests of scientist? Also, today there are some independent scholars are studying on clone technology on human body. But before it is proven harmless to human bodies and the latent ethnic problems are solved, the research should be prohibited.(这个例子很好,我觉得完全可以取代上面小鬼子的例子)

In conclusion, scholars and researchers should not carry out their studies only for chasing their own interests, by doing which they may drive human beings into danger in some cases. That(It?) should be more taken into account that(删掉,否则病句了) whether the larger society would benefit from their researches since scientists are the hope for a promising tomorrow of mankind.
