What is your goal after obtaining your JD? Becoming an attorney in the U.S. or going back to China to practice law? Different goals may require different strategies . . .
Since you are studying in either Cornell or Columbia, it would not be a bad idea to explore your chances to be admitted to the law school of your current university by visiting its admission office. Just talk to them and seek their advise/suggestion. In addition, think about working in the U.S. as an engineer before jumping to law school.

Thank you so much for your reply!!!
I prefer to working in the U.S. However, going back China is also a good choice for me. Of course, I dream of being an attorney. However, I am not sure whether I will choose the IP Law, though I know it is the best way considering my background. I want to explore more in law before I make the decision.
I have considered why not become an engineer since it's apparently a more natural way to stay in the U. S. And the answer I gave to myself is that I feel bad when I do engineering things. I don't like the routine and the atmosphere of engineering jobs. Thus, even though jumping to law school makes it harder to stay in U. S., I just can't let me feel bad for the whole rest life. Therefore, I put the work location into the second.
In conclusion, my willingness goes to if I can be an attorney of some field I am interested in + work in U. S. > IP Attorney + work in U. S. > whatever I will do + work in China.
Would you mind give me some other suggestion?? I really appreciate it.
