Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? A job with more vacation time but a low salary is better than a job with a high salary but less vacation time.

Nowadays, more and more people are inclined to prefer jobs with high salary but less vacation time because of the large amount of money they can receive. However, contrary to their opinion is my heartfelt agreement with the idea that a job with lower salary but more vacation time is better. Apart from money, there are many other important things in our life which we would probably miss if our jobs take up too much time.

To begin with, a lower-paying job with shorter hours would leave us more free time which is not only beneficial to our physical health but also good to our mental health. It is the high pressure and long working hours of jobs that make large number of middle aged people get various kinds of physical and mental problems, such as hypertension, cancer, or tristimania. It is reported that every year there are some white-collar professions who commit suicide. On the other hand, one who takes a job with low salary but shorter hours has enough time to relax and recover. They would be energetic and happy when they return to work. Also, the personal life can only be enjoyed adequately if there is enough time away from the professional life. A high salary affords nice things, such as houses, cars or television, but a person who has to work night and day will not be able to drive any pleasure from them. With more vacation time, people can do the things they like, such as listening to the music, playing violin, or going on a trip, which would make their life more colorful.

In addition, people who take a lower-paying job with shorter hours and more vacation could spend more time to keep company with their families. A father or a mother who makes lots of money might be able to provide his or her family with a comfortable is life, but how much good does that do if he or she never sees them? Time spent with family, especially children, is invaluable. Perhaps spending some time to raise a healthy, well-adjusted child and get the child to learn his lessons well is much more important than earning the money.

However, just as the old saying goes “money makes the mare go”, money plays a significant role in our daily life. There are more and more financial responsibilities, including the raise of children, the purchase of cars and house and the medical care for old people. Therefore, one must concede that the low salary is somewhat a drawback compared with the high salary of the jobs with less vacation time.

To sum up, although there may be some minor disadvantages with a low paying job with shorter hours, I feel the advantages far outweigh them. A low paying job with shorter hours and more vacation time could give people more time to enjoy life and to stay with their families. Although he gets less money, he does not miss all other important things in his life. So from what has been discussed above, we can safely arrive at a conclusion that a job with more vacation time but a low salary is better than a job with a high salary but less vacation time.

Now, it is widely held that art and music plays an indispensable role in our daily life. Art and music is to people’s life what the color is to a white paper. However, when asked about whether younger school children should be required to study art and music in addition to math, science, history and language, some people may hold a negative view because of the young age of these children. Contrary to their opinion is my heartfelt agreement with the idea that younger school children should be required to study art and music in addition to math, science, history and language.

Admittedly, to understand the deep or hidden meaning of the artwork, one needs to know the cultural background or some other art theory knowledge which would be hard for the younger school children to comprehend. Also, considering that the younger school children have already had to learn math, science, history, and language, some parents may worry about whether their children could bear the burden of learning another course about art. However, art has its own value to the younger children despite their younger age and the art and music course is deserved to be learnt by them due to the numerous benefits it could bring about.

To begin with, these subjects give the young children an outlet to express their emotions. Since they are still very young, it may be difficult for them to use only language to show their feelings. However, with the help of art and music, their moods or feeling can be easily expressed. For example, a girl who is pride and joyful can draw a painting in which there is a girl with a big smile on her face jumping high in the air or can simply sing a cheerful song. The case is not isolated, it is one of many examples I have encountered.

In addition, learning art and music plays an essential role in cultivating the children’s characters. They would learn to be patient, to persist on their target and so on. For instance, a boy who wants to play a piece of violin music well has to practice the music again and again. At first, the music may sound terrible, but if he keeps on practicing, he would finally play a euphonious music in the end. What’s more, this successful experience would encourage him to keep on pursuing his dreams in his later life.

Last but not least, requiring the younger school children to learn music and art would make them to acquire an excellent way to relax themselves when they grow up to teenagers or even adults. As we all know, life is not easy and we would feel tired and exhausted after long time of study and work. If these children learn art and music courses when they are still young, they would know how to play music or appreciate the art works through which they can drive away the weariness in their future life.

To begin with, a part-time job related to their major gives students an exciting opportunity to apply the theories they have learned in school which could in turn motivate them to study better at universities. An apt illustration for this point of view involves the students of mechanics major. As we all know, the major of mechanics is notoriously, abstract, boring, and difficult in which the students have to learn theoretical mechanics, mechanics of materials, elastic mechanics and so on. The numerous formulas and complex calculation could even drive one crazy if he/she studies in the classroom all day long. However, when students take part-time jobs in a designing institute of civil engineering, they might discover how important studying the knowledge of mechanics is for building the skyscrapers, bridges, and roads. The students might then return to their mechanics studies with renewed vigor and interests. The original abstract academic pursuits turn into a concrete and interesting goal with a real relationship to the students’ life.

In addition, part-time jobs could help students strengthen their resumes, build important contacts with companies, and learn the newest and most advanced techniques in their respective fields. For example, students of computer major could take part-time jobs in the companies where they would contact with the cutting-edge knowledge in computer field. Also, by working hard, they could leave a good impression to the boss which would help them to acquire a full-time job in the company when they graduate. However, I concede that the major task for college students is still study, so that they should guarantee that the part-time jobs do not occupy too much of their time and they still have enough energy to learn their courses well. Nowadays, movies and TV programs has become(是不是 is becoming 更好？) more and more popular around the world because they are wonderful ways to relax and to(我觉得to可以删掉) learn things. Many countries begin to invest a huge amount of money to make(produce) films or (and) TV programs. However, when asked about whether the programs and films made in one’s own country are more interested than those made in other countries, different people may hold different views. Some may support the idea, for they find films made in other countries difficult to understand. Nevertheless, I find this statement problematic.

Admittedly, just as some people argue that films and programs made in other countries may sometimes confuse us because of the different culture backgrounds or languages. For example, an Englishman(British) man may find a Chinese cross talk boring or meaningless although it makes Chinese people just could not stop laughing. Perhaps it is the strange and funny tone that the actor uses that amuses the native audiences and the foreign people who are not familiar with the certain language would just can not understand it even if it has been translated. Another apt illustration may involve that one find some foreign talk show(show和program是不是用语重复了) programs boring, for perhaps(两个词的顺序是不是应该换一下) the story of （things they discuss in）the talk show has (have) never happened in his/her country.

However, with the fast development of globalization, the communication between different countries becomes more and more frequent. And we can receive个人感觉这个词多余 or watch a great number of foreign movies or TV programs at home now. As a consequence, an increasing number of people begin to have interests in foreign movies and programs.

Firstly, by watching foreign movies and programs, one can gain insight(这个词好像使用不当) into the beautiful scenery around the whole word. For instance, people who have never been to China can have a good view of the Great Wall, Summer Palace, mountains of Himalayas in some Chinese films or TV programs. Likewise, people who have never been to America could learn about the beautiful beaches of California, national parks such as Yellowstone and Niagara Falls, as well as man-made wonders such as the Statue of Liberty, Mount Rushmore, and the Golden Gate Bridge by watching American movies. Therefore, watching foreign movies is an excellent way to appreciate the wonderful places in other parts of the world.

Secondly, as we all know, some countries in the world have more advanced film-making techniques and more program-making experiences. Therefore, films and programs of these countries are more exciting and could teach people more about life compared to the films made in some other countries. In this case, people are more likely to watch these foreign movies. The well-known American film Jurassic Park is just a case in point. The dinosaur images were generated by a computer, yet in the movie, they looked as real as the actors. You could even see their shadows and the vapor fromof their breath. People from many other countries are attracted by this film, mostly because of the high techniques of computer used in the film and the film “special effects”(这句话比较啰嗦). Another convincing example may involve the American talk show program(去掉) of Oprah Winfrey. In her television show she makes it possible to talk about great moments and difficulties in people’s lives which have encouraged thousands of men and women to overcome the obstacles in their lives. AsBut in some countries, the talk show programs have just emerged so they just could not reflect the insight of society and life as well as Winfrey’s. Therefore, people of these countries may prefer to watch the American talk show.

To sum up, I concede that films and programs made in one’s own country would cater the appetite of the native audiences well. However, it is presumptuous and arbitrary to conclude that movies and TV programs made in one’s own country are more interesting than those made in other countries. By watching foreign movies and programs, people can view the wonders around the world and can appreciate the movies and programs which have deep meaning and are made in the most advanced techniques of the world.
