Being a part of a group means we need to share opinions with each other. Therefore, we are likely to meet some people who hold different views or even eccentric views, I believe it is better for the whole group to improve and put forward
Frist of all, the dissenters can help us avoid groupthink, namely following the major’s idea blindly. Therefore, when facing the critical moment, they can remind us change a usual way to solve the problem in order to cut down the loss. For example, the famous company NOKIA who almost took half of the marketing a couple of years ago, everyone believes that smaller and thinner cellphones would be the trend as the company advocated. However, touch screen cellphone became popular only a few years later, because there was no dissenter to point out the deadly shortcoming, the era of NOKIA was ended.
Furthermore, the dissenters are usually those people who are full of talent, imagination as well as creation. Those essential qualities are meaningful for leading a new trend and new advanced devices, such as those inventors who are not content about the current situation and create a new world. Take Steve Jobs for example, the Apple company’s great success is definitely caused by him, although a lot of people disapproved his thoughts about the big screen and app store, even believed that he was losing his mind, the truth is exactly on the contrary, he still made unbelievable success and created a whole new centenary.
However, we cannot deny that dissenters could cause some side effects. The most prominent one is that they will affect the cooperation among the group members, as a result, it will cause some unnecessary waste, such as the slow down the efficiency and maybe even make the entire work stuck in a dilemma. Nevertheless, some deficiencies are quite small compared to the priorities. After all, with a large number of workers, we can speed up the working efficiency so as to make up for the drawbacks caused by them. In terms of lacking those people, we may face some catastrophic consequences and those cannot be solved by the ordinary people.
To sum up, I believe that the dissenters are an indispensable part of every group, more importantly, they may make contributions more than anyone of us. From my point of view, if they can get along with the rest of the group members, then we can, to a large extent, promote our efficiency and come through every conundrum.
