Issue9 "Academic disciplines have become so specialized in recent years that scholars' ideas reach only a narrow audience. Until scholars can reach a wider audience, their idea will have little use."After careful and objective analysis about the issue whether the scholars should reach a wider audience to make their ideas really useful, I find my view principally consistent with the authors'. In my opinion, despite of the specialization of today's academic disciplines, the scholar have every reason to expose their ideas to wider audience for the improvement of their idea and its application into practical life. In the following discussion, I will show my evidence to substantiate my view.
In first place, in the age of bombardment of information, the academic field tends to be divided into increasingly specialized disciplines. It is believed that Aristotle had known almost everything in the time he lived, however, nowadays, it is impossible for us to deal with the information produced daily. It is a current trend that the scholars are dedicated in specialized field for the growing complexity of the problem we are now dealing with, which lead us to the illusion that our human race have retrograded in intelligence. However, it is a scientific and efficient way to specialize our study or works, it relatively reduces the difficulty of our jobs, and make us more able to concentrate all our efforts on a single problem and easier to accomplish our tasks.
In the second place, though the academic fields are continually specialized, the scientist should expose their ideas to a wider audience for the improvement of their ideas and the development of the scientific research. For example, when the Quantum Theory was presented, it could not be accepted at first, even Einstein was suspicious of its truth by saying that the god would not dice. However, It is until some experiments had been proved the results predicted by the Quantum Theory that most of scientists regarded the theory just as one of the unintelligible imaginations. If we simply assume that no one concern about the Quantum Theory and thus no one design experiments to test it, the theory could never contribute so much to the development of science. Furthermore, the new-presented ideas of a certain scholar however authoritative he is are not necessarily theoretically correct, the wider audience it reaches, the more chance it has to be improved or to be rejected and then contribute to a new direction of efforts. Therefore, without wide enough audience, scholars' idea will be neglected after a certain period, which is necessary for it to evolve into a valuable one.
In the final analysis, scholars' ideas reaching wider audience may promote the process of turning their theoretical achievement into our practical use. Only the idea itself, despite of its correctness and significance, cannot be practically useful to the society and is far from its application to our everyday life. Usually, the presentation of a great idea and its application are not finished by the same scholar. For instance, the idea of steam engine had long been presented before Watt's time, however, it could not be used in industrial production for its low efficiency. It is Watt, whom most of us take for the exact scholar who invented the steam engine, that innovated the already existing steam engine and improved its efficiency, which make the industrial application of the steam engine possible and promoted the start of the first Industrial Revolution. Just imagine, if the original idea of the steam engine had been only accessible to a small portion of people, the possibility of Watt's improvement would have been greatly reduced.
To sum up, I consent to the author without reservation. Through the discussion mentioned above, we can easily reach the conclusion that the scholar should guarantee their ideas to reach wide enough audience for the improvement and application of their theory, even if in an age of continually specialized academic disciplines.
Issue9 "Academic disciplines have become so specialized in recent years that scholars' ideas reach only a narrow audience. Until scholars can reach a wider audience, their idea will have little use."
After careful and objective analysis about the issue whether the scholars should reach a wider audience to make their ideas really useful, I find my view principally consistent with the authors'. In my opinion, despite of the specialization of today's academic disciplines, the scholar(s) have every reason to expose their ideas to wider audience for the improvement of their idea(好象应该用复数) and its application into practical life.
However, it is a scientific and efficient way to specialize our study or works, it(and) relatively reduces the difficulty of our jobs, and make us more able to concentrate all our efforts on a single problem and easier to accomplish our tasks.
In the second place, though the academic fields are continually specialized, the scientist should expose their(their? 前面不是 scientist) ideas to a wider audience for the improvement of their ideas and the development of the scientific research. For example, when the Quantum Theory was presented, it could not be accepted at first, (conjunction)even Einstein was suspicious of its truth by saying that the god would not dice. However, I(i)t is until some experiments had been proved the results predicted by the Quantum Theory that most of scientists regarded the theory just as one of the unintelligible imaginations(可能是水平有限,看了半天才明白).
In the final analysis, scholars' ideas reaching wider audience may promote the process of turning their theoretical achievement into our practical use. Only the idea itself, despite of its correctness and significance, cannot be practically useful to the society and is far from its application to our everyday life(看不明白). Usually, the presentation of a great idea and its application are not finished by the same scholar. For instance, the idea of steam engine had long been presented before Watt's time, however, it could not be used in industrial production for its low efficiency. It is Watt, whom most of us take for the exact scholar who invented the steam engine(need consideration), that innovated the already existing steam engine and improved its efficiency, which make the industrial application of the steam engine possible and promoted the start of the first Industrial Revolution. Just imagine, if the original idea of the steam engine had been only accessible to a small portion of people, the possibility of Watt's improvement would have been greatly reduced.
Whether Watt was representative of the wide audience should be taken into question.
To sum up, I consent to the author without reservation. Through the discussion mentioned above, we can easily reach the conclusion that the scholar should guarantee their ideas to reach wide enough audience for the improvement and application of their theory, even if in an age of continually specialized academic disciplines.
After careful and objective analysis about the issue whether the scholars should reach a wider audience to make their ideas really useful, I find my view principally consistent with the authors' (author’s吧?). In my opinion, despite of the specialization of today's academic disciplines, the scholar have every reason(这种用法好象不是很合适) to expose their ideas to wider (widen吧)audience for the improvement of their idea(复数) and its application into practical life. In the following discussion, I will show my evidence to substantiate my view.
In first place,(是in the first place) in the age of bombardment of information, the academic field tends to be divided into increasingly specialized disciplines. However, it is a scientific and efficient way to specialize our study or works, it relatively reduces the difficulty of our jobs, and make(注意单复数) us more able(ability) to concentrate all our efforts on a single problem and easier to accomplish our tasks.
However, It is until some experiments had been proved the results predicted by the Quantum Theory that most of scientists(不用加of) regarded the theory just as one of the unintelligible imaginations. If we simply assume that no one concern about the Quantum Theory and thus no one design experiments to test it, the theory could never contribute so much to the development of science. Furthermore, the new-presented ideas of a certain scholar however(whatever吧?) authoritative he is are not necessarily theoretically correct, the wider audience it reaches, the more chance it has to be improved or to be rejected and then contribute to a new direction of efforts.
(句子好复杂啊,你到底要说什么?)Usually, the presentation of a great idea(表达有问题) and its application are not finished by the same scholar. For instance, the idea of steam engine had long been presented before Watt's time, however, it could not be used in industrial production for its low efficiency. It is Watt, whom most of us take for the exact scholar who invented the steam engine, that innovated the already existing steam engine and improved its efficiency, which make(注意单复数) the industrial application of the steam engine possible and promoted(时态!) the start of the first Industrial Revolution. Just imagine(好象词性需要换一换吧?), if the original idea of the steam engine had been only accessible to a small portion of people, the possibility of Watt's improvement would have been greatly reduced.
To sum up, I consent to the author without reservation. Through the discussion mentioned above, we can easily reach the conclusion that the scholar should guarantee their ideas to reach wide enough audience for the improvement and application of their theory, even if in an age of continually specialized academic disciplines.
