Issue152 The only responsibility of corporate executives, provided they stay within the law, is to make as much money as possible for their companies.
The speaker claims that as long as they stay within the law, the only responsibility of corporate executives is to do their utmost to create profits. I concede that profits 用单数吧 are an important goal of corporation. However, at the same time, corporation is also a group of human beings and executives should also consider employees psychological needs as well as economical material requirements. Moreover, corporation as an entity is a member of society and therefore and+therefore?去掉一个吧 certain corresponding social responsibilities should not be neglected.
Admittedly, after all, corporation is an economic entity which means that its ultimate goal is to create这个动词一般用gain或者make profits. First, profits are essential to corporate employees' survival. We, human beings, need money to purchase living necessaries and support our day-to-day lives, and that is the very reason why everyone has to work. When a person chooses to serve a corporation, this corporation's executives must satisfy his or her basic living requirements. To some extent, a corporation is simply a group of people who are organized together to earn money. Moreover, profits are also indispensable to corporation's development. To employ more workers, to provide more products and to introduce new technologies all need money which only comes from corporation's profits. 感觉这句话反过来说就更好了:Only a profitable corporation can employ more workers...Consequently, such company can occupy bigger portion of the market and buy other small companies... In short, without profits, no corporation could exist.
Notwithstanding reasons mentioned above why pursuing more profits is necessary and justifiable, it is unwarranted to overstate its significance and hastily assert that it is executives' only responsibility. In fact, aside from making profits, there are other more important responsibilities of corporate executives.
First of all, because man is a natural as well as social creature and living necessaries??? ensured by profits are only required by our natural character, we as social creatures also call for psychological satisfaction. We need acknowledgment and appreciation from other people, we eager to actualize our personal worthvalue and we pursue a sense that we are unique and indispensable. In order to fill these mental needs, it is also executives’ responsibilities to creating a good 具体化,避免出现good一类的词,consideratework environment, a harmonious corporate nature? and a healthy relationship among employees. From another standpoint, satisfying these requirements is also beneficial to corporate economic purpose, making profits, because an employee with a good spiritual statue tends to be more ambitious and efficient. While these two responsibilities are comparable, there are also other competing ones which could be given precedence over making profits, such as protecting environment and donatingconcentrating on the beneficence .
Except from as an economic entity and as a group of employees, corporation as a whole is also a member of society and therefore should bear some social responsibilities. Without the support of society, a corporation cannot be successful. It is society who provides human resources, original materials, necessary technologies and market. Since corporation has gained so many benefits from society, it should also do some contributions to rewardthe society. Firstly, executives must keep in mind that their corporations should not harm society. Environment pollution may be the most obvious and pressing problems brought about by corporations. Executives have to consider environment protection as one of their most important responsibility, although protecting environment usually conflicts with their economic goal. Second, corporations should have their own contributions. For example, they can use their wealth to help resolve some social problems through philanthropy. Indeed many successful executives have done it. While Bill Gates has established the largest endowed foundation to subsidize medical advances and help protect poverty, Carnegie established a corporation to promote diffusion of knowledge and understanding among people. 好例子
In sum, while profits are essential to employees and corporation's survival, it is never the only responsibility of executives. In fact, satisfying employees' psychological needs and benefiting society are two more important and unshirkable 赞 responsibilities of executives than making profits. |
