   With the development of society and technology as well as the expansion of our knowledge ,people believe that the problems they confront are more complex and challenging than the problems faced by their predecessors .The speaker claimed  that this is just an illusion and would eventually dispel with  increased knowledge and experience . Although I agree that humans do face certain universal and timeless problems , the statement fails to account for the nature of the contemporary problems .

  I agree with the statement insofar as there are certain universial and timeless problems that humans face are neither more or less complex for any generation . For enduring problems such as war , poverty and violence ultimately spring from human nature -such as aggression and greed ,which no technological innovation short of genetic engineering can alter .So from this point , I agree with the speaker .

  Yet , Due to the limited knowledge and experience ,our predecessors could only observe the superficial phenomenon  of the nature .For intance  ,due to the limited knowledge and experience ,our predecessors would simply attributed the natural phenomena such as the earthquake to the awareness of the God, they didn 't know how to solve such  disasters , but  turned  to God for help. However , with the accumulation of knowledge ,people nowadays have the ability to probe into more profound truth of the nature . Now we not only  know that the earthquake is caused by the movement of the earth's crust ,but also developed seismograph to do some research on this phenomenon .So we can say that although  we and our predecessors observe the same thing ,our understanding about these phenomena are much complex than theirs .And it is common that when we confront with a complete new problem which requires more efforts ,we would always feel that we are running of knowledge and experience .

And I think that the speaker overlooked  certain societal  problems unique to today 's world  .For example ,don't you think that we humans should make certain efforts to protect the endangered species ? According to the events such as clear-cutting of forests or polluting of lakes and streams ,we humans have a duty to take affirmative measures to protect the species whose survival we've placed in jeopardy . And the growing scarcity of the world 's natural resources also created unique contemporary problems . These situations didn't exist in acient time , but these are serious problems we humans face today .

In sum ,I partly agree with the speaker's assertion .For some enduring problems we face have changed little in complexity and difficulty over the span of human history ,just because they spring from the human nature .However ,as we solve each successive environmental,scientific and societal problems today ,we will face more challenging and complex ones tomorrow .
