When mainstream science bring us about a variety of developments in fields of economy, culture or politics, many individuals in the society sometimes resort to some nonmainstream areas of inquiry, including astrology, fortune-telling, and psychic and paranormal pursuits, believing that these subjects can solve their ever emerging problems, endowing them with a kind of spiritual power.
The exploration of mainstream science, motivated by the human race's insatiable apetite for the unknown and needs to address pressing social problems. In retrospect, benefits derived from the mainstream science boosted the holistic development of the society. The invention of engines pushed the Europe to the industrial era, in which productivities as well as our living conditions had been dramatically ameliorated. Then, by the revolutionary discovery such as quantum mechanism and the theory of relatives at the beginning of 20th century, our human race began to march into the electronic period. Throughout the history in the development of society, the mainstream science undoubtedly serves as an impetus even the determinant by satisfying human needs either in material or spritual level, leading to the prograss of the whole society.
Nonetheless, only mainstream science itself cannot satisfy all the diverse needs which emerge spontaneously in individual's minds. Science has ameliorated the objective surroundings, yet leaving or creating some unsatisfactory respects. For example, people cannot understand why so many generous and innocent persons have to die away because of the outside irrelevant voilence, they also cannot figure out the reason why lots of individuals are destined to live in hunger, lacking of the fundamental security of life, again, people cannot fathom the reason why some certain groups are deprived of fundamental rights because of race or sexual descrimination . When their efforts striving for gaining the rights of suvival or equality seem to be vain, nonmainstream inquiry then serves as a perfect sanctuary for their spiritual injuries to be healed. With the help of the psychological theory, we can then shift the burden of deciding to some marvelous authorities outside us or relying on stars for guidance.
Also, the paranormal pursuits make effort to explain the principle behind the wilderness in order to predict the routine of our daily lives. Although thoroughly fictive, such predictions, to some extent, aroused people’s confidence and incentive force to make efforts to prepare fully for the future. Compared to those paranormal pursuits, the science can equip humanities with necessary resources, yet it cannot substitute for the role of psychic and paranormal pursuits since it cannot endow persons with the belief that there would be another kind of power overweighing the objective surroudings, which can to some extent explain the lose and win in the process of conquering the nature. Due to unexplainable phenomena around us together with the uncertainty about the future, the unchangeable human nature which etches in the genome of the Homo sapiens deterninates our everlasting needs for the nonmainstream areas. Thus, the nonmainstream areas of inquiry still play an irreplaceable role in our daily life.
However, as for the whole society, the harms brought about by nonmainstream areas overshadow their benefits. When an individual is indulged in the illusion which contradicts the reality, the nonmainstream subject may hocus him/her in short-term, yet ultimately disappoints him/her in the long run. From the level of the holistic society, nonmainstream subjects cultivate large quantities of speculators, who attribute all their loses and wins to the fortune controlled by some unknown power, thus view their life as a game. And this value and the group of indulgers would ultimately hinder the development of the society as a whole, tending to convincing people that the environment should only be acceptted instead of ameliorated.
In sum, I concede that the nonmainstream pursuits can sometimes be treated as a supplementary means for the scientific and logical ones, since such inquiries can afford many people psychological solace and reconcile the spiritual powerlessness in life. Nonetheless, as for the whole society, the nonmainstream pursuit can only deviate from the the prograss in economy and human culture, and truly impetus and determinant of the development are invariably ascribed to mainstream science.

我觉得搂住的语言水平已经到达一定的程度了，是经常钻研老外范文的结果么？行文给人的感觉很流畅。：）
我觉得关于弊大于利这点似乎不必论述了，反正题目也没有要求，楼主也不缺字数，不如节省时间。：）

感谢夜一的点评与建议，语言我觉得还是多读，有了语感自然通顺。但从语言的精炼程度来讲，还是不如夜一。同时我认为老美更看重的还是逻辑论证，这一点我有待加强，还望夜一指正

昨天晚上突然想到只有不到一个月了，觉得日程安排变得紧张了。。
我现在I和A都还不能在规定时间内写完。。。

我是7月28号考，夜一的提醒很有必要，我也有些担心限时的问题，要抓紧了，感觉碰到许多没有太深入思考的题目还是会抓狂。是不是领会分析题目的一种思想方法比匆忙列提纲更重要？夜一觉得舍弃一类题目的建议可取吗？
