AUG147"Although the sales of Whirlwind video games have declined over the past two years, a recent survey of video-game players suggests that this sales trend is to be reserved. The survey asked plays what features they thought were most important in a video game. According to the survey, players prefer games that provide lifelike graphics, which require the most up-to-date computers. Whirlwind has just introduced several such games with an extensive advertising campaign directed at people 10 to 25 years old, the age-group most likely to play video games. It follows, then, that the sales of Whirlwind video games are likely to increase dramatically in the next few months."
  The argument presented above is relatively sound, however, the author fails to recognize all the elements necessary to evaluate his situation. The forecast that the sales of Whirlwind video games are likely to increase dramatically in the next few months based on its market circumstances may be a helpful one, but perhaps lacks the fundamental support and is a lack of trust in the opinions of the reviewers.  
  First of all, the recent survey of video-game players did not indicate its sample size and selection procedure. We can not learn clearly the number of the people joining in this survey and whether they are all representative. If the survey rejects some utilities who did not care the video-game very much, the credible of this survey should be doubted. Also, a small population in this survey can not fully indicate the intention of the whole population. So we should evaluate the usefulness of the survey after defining it as a random selection.
Second, and also important, the arguer fails to analyze the reasons why the sales of Whirlwind video games declined over the past two years. The arguer fails to take into account other factors that might affect the sales of the newly introduced life-like video games. Sound effects, music, character design, and the story line are all the main factors to determine a game’s interest, its popularity and the players’ preference. If the designer does not take these factors into account, the game’s sales volume inevitably descends.   
  Third, the advertising campaign directed at people 10 to 25 years old may turn out to be ineffective. No evidence indicates that players 10-25 years old will also prefer such video games. If such games are not liked by players 10-25 years old, how we can get the information about the others? These teenagers can not represent the adult players, and so, we should not learn the real requirement of such games.
Other problems like the survey focusing on the most important features are not due to the declining of their games’ sales. Also, is the price of such games affordable for the players? Even though their designed games are good enough for all the players, some fatal problems may exist in their market policy and internal regulation.                          
To sum up, there is no reason that Whirlwind do not need to expand its market, however, there is reason to improve its productive and make a complete survey in order to understand their real problem and then find out the solution.
