99. "In any realm of life—whether academic, social, business, or political—the only way to succeed is to take a practical,
rather than an idealistic, point of view. Pragmatic behavior guarantees survival, whereas idealistic views tend to be
superceded by simpler, more immediate options."


Idealistic point of view is more important than pragmatic in long-term issue. Whether in the life of academic, social, business or political, practical action probably ensure a short-term success for people, while this success will not last too long if a person always hold a pragmatic viewpoint.

First of all, let's take a look in academic areas. The empirical experiences tell us that those who want to achieve significant advance in their fields often insist strong believes of attaining successes. As we all know, there are many difficulties in the way of struggling to the summit. Because of his/her losing hope of getting to the final goal in the foreseen future, a person who always take a practical point of view is easily to yield, or even give up, when facing these difficulties. Thomas Edison, the famous American inventor, has created many new tools, which can facilitate our lives during his life, and of course, he has failed many times. If he has preferred to pragmatic behaviors and stopped trying when meeting problems in his attempting to another new invention, he would not get the great achievements after so many times of failures.

Secondly, in the business field, we can also see the similar things. A company, without a strong idealistic leadership, or without an idealistic goal, will not last a long time even it can get commerce profits during its early days. Focusing on pragmatic behaviors, a company will only fulfill, if it really can, the current needs of its current customers, and take a high risk of losing its clear direction. For example, when it comes to the Internet surge, so many Internet related companies have been founded, and then, disappeared in the recent years. Comparing with those surviving companies, the bankrupt firms lacked a strong, long-term and clear intention due to the pragmatism. They purchased only economic profits and ignored many issues, such as legal problems their services involved. They cared only about the number of people who visit their website everyday, and thus missed their visions as a whole.

Finally, politics, is often looked as a realm that requires politicians more pragmatic behaviors, still needs people involved in be more idealistic. A politician always makes a compromise obviously cannot incite a needed revolution at the goal of political ideology.

In conclusion, pragmatic behavior does guarantees short-term, not long-term survival, not saying a truly success. Those who want to achieve great success should hold idealistic views as the bottom lines, besides taking a practical point of view for emergency.

本来自己水平就一般,只能凭自己的理解改改了,希望有什么不对的可以纠正,作者这篇文章逻辑很清晰,也比较有条理,就是在用词上感觉再准确一点,还有单复树,时态注意一点
