TOPIC: ISSUE121 - "At various times in the geological past, many species have become extinct as a result of natural, rather than human, processes. Thus, there is no justification for society to make extraordinary efforts, especially at a great cost in money and jobs, to save endangered species."

Is there no justification for society to make extraordinary efforts to salvage endangered species due to the reason that many species have become extinct as a result of natural election? The speaker claims so. However, as far as I am concerned, under the contemporary situation great majority animals died from the processes of human.
To begin with, I do concede that there are a great deal of extinction of animals in ancient time without the processes of human for the reason that they have no ability to adapt the continuous changing environment according to the theory of natural election. Consider, for example, Mammoth, who lived in the glacial era, is an animal with a thick coat which is used to protect them from frigidity. However, with the process of global warming of the earth, their thick coats become a negative factor which leads to high temperature of body. Grounded in the reason mentioned above, finally the mammoth disappeared from the earth. Again, there are parallels with many other animals such as dinosaur. It is apparent that their extinction is not caused by human because that at that time we have no enough ability to influence nature so deeply and seriously.
However, when it comes to the speed of extinction of animals, the phenomenon of the speed of extinction has been accelerated by the processes of human or the human greed indicate that we human have an bad effect on the animals. With the development of economic, the need for agrarian land increases continuously, which lead to deforestation. Because of the action, many animals lost their inhabitants where provide them with foods, water, and so forth. Undoubtedly, the damage of inhabitants results in the extinction of those animals. Turn our attention to another more persuasive example-the Tibetan antelope. Though it has stunning ability of adapting serious environment, yet due to the greed of human for their smooth fur, the number of the Tibetan antelope decreases greatly. From the above example, it is clear that in the present most animals who in fact adapt environment were pulled into the shrink of extinction by human.
Moreover, even if some animals indeed are not able to be customed to the environment, our government and people still would like to invest funds to protect them in that they actually have become the symbol of its native nation. For example, Koala is a case in point to aptly illustrate my position. We all share a belief that Koala is an animal who can only eat the leaf of eucalyptus, whereas this kind of tree only grows in some area of Australia. If it is not the help of human, Koala may have been died out for many years. Due to lovely appearance of Koala and its scarcity, Australians would like to spend much money to built reserve area to protect it. Simply put, it is impossible for some animals to survival in the earth without the protection of human.
To sum up, it is true that at various times in the geological past, many animals died of their own reasons, but in modern society a large amount of animals are endangered by the negative influence of human. Hence, it is necessary to make undue efforts to protect these animals.
