It is always said that where there is a language, there is an unique culture. The language roots in specific culture and plays as a specific vector as art to convey the culture. Unfortunately, with the rapid pace of life today, more and more languages spoken by minors are disappearing much more quickly than any time before, which means the culture represented by the language is being in danger of extinction. Hence, the governments of the whole world should take steps in order to protect the culture diversity. While, it is still controversial that if it is necessary to pay too much to prevent a language seems useless from becoming extinct but pay less attention on more realistic problems, such as poverty, and war, for example.
As the treasure handed down by ancestors, a language is the key to understand a culture. Hence, we have to take the responsibility to prevent minor spoken languages from extinction unnaturally. This preservation event requires not only the effort of governments and some language experts, but also the effort of descendants who still could speak it. Although, experts could do deeply research through study of the language and get fund from the governments, if the descendants themselves ignore the importance of their language, no matter how hard the experts work, the only thing they could get is a fossil-a dictionary about an extinction language. Therefore, making the descendants know the importance of their language to the culture diversity is more important than the only preservation action by governments and experts.
Living in this more and more global world, it is really hard to sustain people's own culture, especially to the minors. The progress of being global, actually, is a convergence evolution progress, which means the trends is using general standards for products, using general money for business, and even speaking a same language to communicate. Living in this world, it is nearly impossible for people to both use world language and minor spoken language to communicate, as one language is enough for them to communicate, why they have to spend more time than others on another language which seems useless in the world. Moreover, if people living in a region speak only the minor spoken language, clearly the language is the barrier for them to understand the outside world, as they never know what others talk about.
From my point of view, the protection of language or culture diversity is like the protection of species diversity. Taking the panda as an example, there is no doubt that the panda is cute and precious legacy handed down by the nature, we have to protect them with any effort. But with a scrutiny, are we occupied in a case that we are not sure? I mean ,actually, what cause the fact? If the answer is over hunting, of course, we have to forbid the hunting, but what if the reason is degradation of them? Is it necessary or could we prevent the final extinction due to degradation? Also is culture. Their survival should obey the law of survival of the fittest. If it could never fit the environment, the protection action is still illegal to the nature law. We always say that is, there is a reasonable. Actually, on the other hand, it still could say that that is not , there is a reasonable.
In sum, to protect a minor spoken language is reasonable as is an action to protect a culture. But the protection should also obey the nature law, the only aim of the action is that let it go naturally. |
