I don’t agree that the best way to improve education is to raise teachers’ salaries. Although by this way teachers’ enthusiasm might be stimulated, the basic problem of education still remains unsolved.

There is no doubt that it is an effective way to improve education by raising teachers’ salaries. Encouraged by the higher salaries, teachers would like to make more effort to teach students, such as being more patient with students, paying more attention to students’ problems, and spending more time figuring out the way to be better teachers. It seems that the more teachers are encouraged by higher salaries, the better the education will be. However, would the situation develop as how simple we wish?

There are still many problems to solve by raising teachers’ salaries. First of all, it is teachers’ obligation to teach students well, which should not be motivated by material incentives. If every improvement in teaching demands rising of salaries, there is no difference between teachers and businessmen, the one who judge everything in business terms.

Second, the rising of teachers’ salaries can not guarantee the same rising of the quality of education. The improvement of education needs the efforts of the whole society, including teachers, students, parents and the other social members. Also, the development of education takes a long time, which can not be achieved by a simple method within short time like raising teachers’ salaries.  

Therefore, although raising teachers’ salaries is an effective way to improve education, there are still lots of problems to solve. As these problems can not be solved easily, I do not think that raising teachers’ salaries is the best way to improve education.

The author of the reading passage mentions three theories as likely explanations of great house. The lecturer, however, points out the inaccuracies in each of these theories.

The reading thinks that the great house was used as residential places. The lecturer, however, argues that the great house can not be living apartment in support of the obvious deficiency of fireplaces

The second theory of the storage function is also rejected by the lecturer. He explains that no spilled maize in the great house. This proves that the great house is used for storing food is unlikely.

Finally, regarding the third theory, the “ceremonial centers theory”, the lecturer also disagrees. He argues that there lots of construction trash and leftover in the great house, which means there can not be a sacred place.

写的时候就很犹豫，如果我不同意这是best way，那我是应该提出另一个方法，证明另一个方法更好呢，还是论证提高薪水本身就不好呢？
如果我的重点是论证另一方法更好，会不会被认为跑题呢？
因为写的时候自己就很混乱，所以写出来逻辑就更混乱了

Communal online encyclopedias may be the future of organizing encyclopedias, because it has many respects like traditional printed encyclopedias while it is finished online by all internet users. But the reading passage, questions that the communal online encyclopedias still have some serious problems which make them less valuable than traditional ones.  About these, the lecturer opposes the opinions of the reading passage one by one.

First, the reading passage argues that online encyclopedias lack academic credential, owing many inaccuracies in their cases. But in terms of error, the lecturer points out that comparing with the long time for traditional encyclopedias to correct their errors, online ones can correct their errors more easily and efficient.

Second, the reading passage doubts the safety of online encyclopedias, as everyone has the opportunity to fabricate, delete and corrupt the information of online encyclopedias. The lecturer states that there are two methods to prevent the information being spoiled, one is using a reliable format, and another is hiring an editor to obverse the whole correcting.

Third, the reading passage thinks online encyclopedias confuse the values of the society, paying too much attention to the popular things. For lecturer, this is the value of online encyclopedias: reflecting the true interest of the public and showing the real world.

Undoubtedly, improving schools helps the development of a country. But it is questionable whether this is the most important factor in the success of a nation. As far as I am concerned, although education exerts great influence on the development of a country, improving schools, one effective method of education is not the most important factor in the successful development of a country.

There's a precondition that must exist before discussing our topic, and that is whether the progress of education is the most important aspect of the development of a country. Judging the success of a country, there are lots of standards, within which the education level is the most important one. The high level of education not only means the country can cultivate a large number of native talents in the future, but also indicates the great attract to foreigners. A country which can attract most foreigners to stay is absolutely the most successful one. Therefore, the level of education is crucial to the success of a country.

After defining the importance of education, we should figure out the influence of improving schools on education. There are many factors that can influence education. Improving schools is not the only determining one. Such elements as raising teachers' salaries, caring more for students, adding connections with parents and community also impact the degree to education. It is hard to determine that which of them is the essential factor of education, for education are complex combinations of all the factors, unlike calculation whose components can be easily separated to see. In other words, improving schools can not be proved to be the most important factor of education, not to mention in the successful development of a country.

From this analysis, I strongly oppose any position arguing that the improvements on schools can be the essential factor for success of the country. To put it in a simpler and more direct way, “how much the schools improve” should not be applied as criteria for determining how successfully a country develops.

We are used to acquiring information from newspapers and magazines, for they are in time and easy to get. Many people believe that newspapers and magazines are also the best ways to learn about a foreign county, however, I disagree with the statement because I consider traveling is much better to understand a foreign country.

Comparing with reading newspapers and magazines, it is an more effective way to observe a foreign country by traveling. All the information we acquire from media is written and photographed by the journalists. We watch the strange and distant country through their eyes, and our imaginations are inspired by their attractive descriptions. How can we suppose we can really understand a country by this way? It is possible that what we think we have known about a country is far less than a miner part of it. Also, it is common for journalists to select the most exciting part of a country to introduce, moreover, they cover the facts intentionally and twisting reality.

I've realized this by a recent travel to Hong Kong. Before the trip, I have collected lots of materials from newspapers and magazines. I was so impressive with the grand and modern buildings, the resplendent fashion items, and the various kinds of entertainments introduced by the mass media, that I dreamed that I would go to a wonderland of fast living and luxury. Whereas, despite the modern and elegant sight of Hong Kong, the great disparity between rich and poor seldom reported by the media, gave me the unforgettable image. It's hard to wipe out the scene of an old lady sitting in a cage, which can only contain one person, saying that it was her house. The payment of the prosperity in Hong Kong is the sacrifice of this silent crowd. However, this tragedy rarely appears on newspapers and magazines comparatively.

Therefore, as far as I'm concerned, if you want to know a foreign country, the best way is to travel around the country, talking to the local people and exploring this country by yourself. Reading the newspapers and magazines enables you to know the basic situation of a country, but it is superficial, sometimes even not worthy of confidence. In a word, I oppose the idea that newspapers and magazines are the best ways to learn about a foreign country, and I believe that traveling is the best.

First, while the writer states that USconsumers care little about the content of the advertisement, the speakeropposes the claim. The speaker points out those consumers react favorable tothe ecocertified products; especially the certification is made by anassociation with international reputation.

Second, contrary to the passage, speakerthinks although consumers are sensitive to price, they also value eco-products.Moreover, a study has already indicated that only when the price of a productis more than 5% higher than other ones of same quality, consumers will care.

As the rapid-pace world has always beenimposing increasing living pressure on people, there is a tendency to sacrificevacation time in order to get a higher salary job. However, as far as I amconcerned, a job with more vacation time but low salary is better than a jobwith a high salary but less vacation time.

Whichever job we choose, the final goal isto live a happy life. Although accomplishments on work can bring ussatisfaction and self-affirmation, there are only small parts of life. We stillneed time to stay with our families, communicate with friends, keeping healthyand enjoying the nature. We have a lot to achieve in our life besides working;moreover, some of them are much more important than sitting in an office,typing the endless workload.

We have already heard lots of examples ofthe hard-working white collars: they devoted all their passion to working whenthey were young, neglecting their health and family, in order to earn a highsalary to satisfy the various material desires. Every time exhausted afterworking, they comforted themselves that they would obtain happiness in thefuture. Whereas, when they became too old to fit any job, what they can do wasjust sitting at home, regretting not to pursue the true happiness. So, if notwanting to become a member of them, we should give up the high salary,treasuring the vacation time. There are many factors that can make us happy.Money is not the only determining one.

What's more, our eagerness for money willnever stop. Greed pushes us forward, at the same time destroying us. With the increasing number of movies and TVprograms made in other countries boardcast in China, the debate in this field isheated. Some people believe that movies and TV programs in their own country isalways more interesting than those made in other countries, while othersdisagree on it, citing that movies and TV programs made in other countries canalso be interesting, and audience sometimes enjoy more from them. From my ownperspective, the latter one is more favorable.

The first reason I want to put forward isthat whether a movie or TV program is interesting or not depends on itsquality, not the country which makes it. Although the domestic movie or TVprogram has its minor advantages in attracting domestic audience, an excellentforeign one is also easy to become popular. For example, one American drama TVseries, Friends, has been popular in China for years. Chinese audience, especiallythe young, is fond of its humorous and warm way of showing friendships.Confused by some words from Friends based on the different cultural background,fans even made the list of explaining the confusing words for the whole tenseasons. Therefore, as we can see, in spite of different cultures, the foreignmovies and TV programs can also be interesting, and even more popular withdomestic audience.

Another reason I want to convey is that itis a direct way to experience different cultures from watching foreign moviesand TV programs, which makes them more interesting. The foreign movies and TVprograms describe the daily lives, recording the complicated emotions and variouskinds of thoughts of people from different countries. Through these movies andTV programs, the domestic audience broadens their horizons, exploring adifferent world and watching the different tradition. On the other hand, theymay also realize that no matter in which country, some problems of living arein common. Take myself as an example. I am so interested in another Americandrama series, Law and Oder, that I think it isthe best TV legal programs I've ever watched, both of my country and othercountries. Thanks to its excellent producers, I have learned lots of legalknowledge from this drama. What's more, I have a deeper understanding of thespirit of American legal system which is totally different from the one of mycountry. Thus, I believe that movies and TV programs made in other countriescan also be very interesting.

However, I have to admit that sometimesmovies and TV programs in Chinaare more interesting than those made in other countries. As the producers andaudience are brought up in the same cultural tradition and background, it iseasy for audience to understand the plots, having empathy with the characters.This phenomenon is apparent in the movies starring by Stephen Chow, the famous Hong Kong actor. His movies are one of the mostinteresting and popular movies in China. Nevertheless, limited oflanguages, it is hard for foreigners to grasp his humor, which leads to thefailure of his movies in America.In this sense, movies and TV programs is more interesting than those made inother countries.

Although domestic movies and TV programsown their advantages, those made in other countries can also be veryinteresting, even attracting more audience. With all the reasons explainedabove, this conclusion is easy to draw.
