At first, I donot know why all English book begins with a chapter on building people's vocabulary. Now I knew it. It begins this way because people's success in school will depend to a great extent on your knowledge of words. Words are tools you will use in reading, writing, speaking , and listening. They are the tools people will use in mastering other subjects---history, science, foreign languages, and so on.

The word's chapter will show people how to unlock the meanings of unfamiliar words by seeing how they are used in the sentences in which they appear. It will also show people how to use the dictionary to find the exact word people is looking for.

with a large vocabulary at people's command, he will be able to master his school subjects more quickly and easily. He will also be able to express his thoughts and feelings more precisely.
During people studies of the word's chapter, he will learn several useful ways of finding out the meanings of unfamiliar words. The meaning of a word is determined by the context in which it is used.

The CONTEXT of a word is the sentence or group of sentences in which the word appears. Frequently, the CONTEXT of a passage will help people determine the meaning of an unfamiliar word.
