------题目------
The way people look, dress, and act reveals their attitudes and interests. You can tell much about a society's ideas and values by observing the appearance and behavior of its people.
------正文------
Our appearance and behavior is part of culture. Fundamentally, I agree with the speaker's assertion that the way people look, dress, and act reveals their attitudes and interests. Even more, in most cases, people's appearance and behaviors indicates much of a society's ideas and values. However, there are some exceptions among the foregoing two points, for instance, as the globalization sweeping over the world; people tend to look, dress and behavior in a similar way.
One compelling argument I in favor of the statement is that in most of cases, the way people look, dress, and act reveals their attitudes and interests because they based their own preference and willingness to dress and act. A myriad of examples can aptly illustrate this point. Consider, a girl in a colorful sweater demonstrates her active and optimistic character. While a man in a decent suit with conservative gestures show his dignity, politeness and gentleness. Nevertheless, on the other hand, we are part of the society, and in some exceptional occasions, we have to comply to the form or the regulations of the society, which to some extent influences the way we look, dress and act. For instance no matter how a person is eccentric in his dressing style, when he is invited to a formal international conference, he must be dressed in a formal suit with tie to show his dignity, esteem or respect for others. So, in this occasion, we can tell little about this person because we sometimes must comply to be uniformity.
Another compelling argument is that the appearance and behavior, as part of the culture, in most cases reveal the ideas and values of the people of the society. One need look no further than the distances between strangers in different countries, you will find this is absolutely right. In some Asian countries, for instance Japan, people pay special attention to their distance with strangers because they play high value on people's privacy. Statistics show that the average distance is 2 meters. Any distance less than this would consider as aggression to the speaker. While in some Latin American countries, things are quite different. People keep very close distance with each other even strangers, which indicates that people there pay little value on people's privacy. Another more excellent example, people in China are more willing to save their money in the banks for suddenness while Western people are more willing to spend than saving. From this distinction we can easily conclude that Chinese are more conservative in money spending and tend to pursue a more stable life.
As the development of the globalization, these distinctions mentioned above about people’s appearance and behavior become more and more obscure, and they serve as poor indications of values and ideas of the society. No matter in Paris, Tokyo or other different parts of the world, you can often see people in the same kind or brand of clothes, Take the example we discussed above, in today's China, the young generations tend to spend money they earn and adopt the mortgage loan for consumption as the people do in the West today. Their values in money spending become more and more identical.
In the final analysis, in most of the case, people's dressing and behavior demonstrate their attitudes and interests and in a broader assertion demonstrate the ideas and values of the distinctive culture. However, we'd better not go too far because of the unavoidable storm of the culture identity of the globalization.
