In this issue, the author states that art works reveal hidden societal notions and urges. I partially agree with the author. As far as I am concerned, the arts mirror the hidden ideas and impulses of a society when it is difficult for people to express their opinion freely.(这句说得好!) Otherwise, they are more the reflection of individual thoughts or an approach of expression.
First of all, the arts as a media of thoughts and impulses can serve to transfer information in a much less blatant way. Accordingly, in a society ruled under tyranny, art works could be an effective way to express the societal urges and notions. For example, in the feudal times of China, folks were forbidden to protest the sovereign publicly, or they would be executed by capital penalties. Thus, art works which can hardly be excused as an obvious remark of the defiance of the authority became the best outlets of people's anger and dissatisfactions(经典!). The great Chinese literature Water Margin, a literature depicting the revolt of ordinary people fighting against the tyranny is such a media of expressing hidden societal notions and impulses. In sum, art works reveal the hidden impulses and ideas of a society when people are deprived of the freedom of speeches.
However, in the society people can express themselves freely the arts are merely the media for notions instead of the hidden ones. For instance, in many countries nowadays, people have no troubles in telling their wishes and thoughts. They parade, form communities, organize unions to convey their ideas. Art works only diversify the methods of expression. Besides, since the societal impulses and ideas are not hidden any longer, the art works can barely serves as the token of secrete thoughts. They enable the ideas and impulses of a society stronger and more conspicuous by arousing the visceral sensation of people. Therefore, the arts in a society allowing free speeches are just common approaches of expression.
Moreover, art works are the reflections of personal ideas and impulses considering they are works of different individuals after all. It is especially apparent in the present societies, when idiosyncrasy and uniqueness are highly viewed. Artists create different arts to make themselves different from others in case of being mediocre.(这个观点很新颖!) Meanwhile, artists vary a lot since their dissimilar experiences, knowledge or even the emotions when they produce the art works, thus have diverse perspectives toward the same object or issues. Consider the poems which concern one normal cloudy day. A poet who is gloomy and frustrated may see it depressing, a symbol of impending catastrophe while a poet who is positive and pleased may see it comfortable, a time for leisure moments. Clearly, artists who are eager to be different and outstanding tend to create different art works with individual thoughts; accordingly, art works are representatives of personal ideas rather than the condensations of a society.
In conclusion, the arts function variably in different society. In the one where people don’t have the freedom to express themselves the art works enable it to reveal its hidden ideas and impulses. Nevertheless, in the society allowing free speeches, the arts are primarily the common ways for expression and the mirrors of personal ideas.
从两种不同社会看ARTS,真是高!每次看你文章不知不觉都变成欣赏了,呵呵,只记得赞了,没改什么,不过这篇文章没什么问题! |
