题目:ARGUMENT200 - Statistics collected from dentists indicate that three times more men than women faint while visiting the dentist. This evidence suggests that men are more likely to be distressed about having dental work done than women are. Thus, dentists who advertise to attract patients should target the male consumer and emphasize both the effectiveness of their anesthetic techniques and the sensitivity of their staff to nervous or suffering patients.

In this argument, the author concludes that the dentists should target on male consumers and emphasize both the effectiveness of their anesthetic techniques and the sensitivity of their staff to nervous for the reason that statistics showed that 3 times more men than women faint while visiting dentists. However, there're several facets which are questionable so that fail to convince me.
First of all, the author just mentioned that 3 times more men than women faint when visiting the dentists, however, there is no statistic about the accurate number of men patients and women patients. In this way, using the frequency without the exact number of male and female patients to conclude makes the whole conclusion pale.
Secondly, faint is only one of the symptoms of nervous. Perhaps the female patients are also nervous however, they have a better mental control so that they don't show their nervous obviously. What's more, there's the possibility that many female patients are even too nervous to see the dentists. On the other hand, it's also possible that male toothache patients have a more serious symptom which results in faint easily.
Thirdly, the author suggests that he dentists should focus on male patients, however, he ignores a even bigger crowds of female patients who even do not go to see the dentists. They are also potential consumers to the dentists.
Fourthly, to emphasize the sensitivity of the staff perhaps will result in the aggravation of nervous rather than alleviate them. Thus, what the dentists need to do is to appeal the patient's attention to some other things so that to make them feel less nervous. Besides, the dentists themselves should improve their skills to shorten the time of the process.
To sum up, the conclusion lacks of credibility so that it fail to convince me. To support the conclusion, the author need to give more evidences about the above-mentioned possibilities.
