The author claims that the most significant events and trends in history were made by groups of people whose identities have long been forgotten rather than the famous few. In my view, while I am firmly confirmed that the study of history should place more emphasis on the groups of people rather than individuals, however, [有while还要however么?] we still cannot ignore the contributions made by the individuals in history.
To begin with, it's true that in the long term of history, it's those groups of people who have made great contribution to the progress of history. For instant [?], in China, everybody knows there're 4 great inventions: paper, compass, powder and typography. These 4 inventions make great contribution to China as well as the whole world. The paper and typography help people record things happen in the past, the compass helps Zheng He, who is the national hero of China, leading a group of ships to discover the western land and the powder helps people to defend the aggressors abroad. All these make it possible for the countries to progress a big step in history, however, most people know the 4 inventions and they don't know who the inventors are. Perhaps some of them are the inventions of a group of people rather than any individuals. Another example that supports this view is the pyramids of Egypt. This is one of greatest miracles in the world which is grand and gallant. However, there's no doubt that it's an art work by a group or even generations of people. Thus, we can see that most of the significant events and trends in history were made possible by the groups of people rather than the famous few. [我更倾向国际的例子]
However, we cannot deny that in some fields, individuals also make great contribution to the society as well as the trends of history. The great physical scientist Newton is just a case in point. The laws of Newton, which is the fundament of classical physics, greatly push the development of physics. While when we talked about the laws of Newton, we cannot deny that it's Newton, an individual person who finds the law rather than a group of people. Besides, those art works by Michalangelo, Raphael as well as Leonardo de Vinci are also made by the individuals. Thus, in some fields, it's also possible for the individuals to make some significant events and trends in history. [最好把Renaissance点出来,更符合events, trends]
Moreover, there's a person who best expresses how the individual power affects the history, he's Napoleon. In the early 19 century, Napoleon led the French army marched across the European land and occupied almost the whole Europe. People sometimes argue that Napoleon failed at last, however, isn't it a great event in history by Napoleon himself? The war of Napoleon not only shows his great ambitious to conquer the whole world, but also suggests that sometimes the most significant events and trends can be made by the individuals. [稍微写写士兵,但突出Napoleon的决定性作用更客观说服力更强]
All in all, from what has been discussed above, we can easily draw our conclusion that on one hand, it's possible that most significant events and trends in history are made by groups of people. Meanwhile, on the other hand, sometimes the individuals in some fields can also make some contribution to the process of history. |
