I fundamentally agree with the assertion that through the way people look, dress and act reflects not only their attitudes and interests but also indicates the ideas and values of a society to some extent. Nevertheless, understanding a society comprehensively needs further profound factors such as culture and history.

First of all, certain aspects of exoteric appearance of a nation’s people indeed reflect us of their attitude and interests. Costume has taken a large portion of a person’s appearance. It is entertaining that we could easiest distinguish the nationalities of different people. When three persons who come from different countries standing a line, the person who wearing T-shirt and jeans and looked relaxed is likely an American, the person whose body is enwrapped by clothes and veil and just show their hands and eyes is probable a Arab, the person who dressed fashionable and looked gentlemanly is possible a French. So people from different countries have different apparel style, and the costume could also reflect the living styles and attitudes of a nation to some extent. Americans advocate freedom, Frances fond of romantic, and Arabs believe in religion over modernization. In this aspect, it is easy to tell the potential ideas and values of a society by observing the apparel of its members.

Secondly, the way of people’s act could also indicate their attitudes and values of a country. As we known, act contains several aspects, such as ceremonies, habits, lifestyles and so forth, which all provide with plentiful information for us to understand its values. For instance, Americans would like to hugging with each other and giving a kiss when they meet after a separate for a long time, this habit are caused by the passion and open mind thought rooted in American’s heart. While in some other countries, such as China and Singapore, people are more accustomed to make hands or nodding head to express sensation when they meet friends. What’s more, Japanese usually make a bow to others in various occasions, and their work hours are the longest in the world, all of which has exhibited the humility and diligence beliefs of this nation.

Howbeit, apparel and act of a nation is just some phenomena that ostensibly reveal the values of a person or a society, and we could not the judge values and attitudes merely through appearance, it is necessary to excavate deeper factors. On the one hand, with the soaring development of civilization and modernization, people’s dressing style has changed tremendously. Nowadays, diversity in appearances and pursuing individuality increase the difficulty to realize the attitudes of a person, let alone the value of a society. On the other hand, more and more people would cover up their genuine appearance and behavior in today’s competitive and complex society, thus it is not easy job to understand the essential attitudes of a person. In addition, the globalization tendency has promote the cultural communication of different countries, and some dressing habits such as jeans have become prevailed and been shared by all people.
