-----------------------------
Should governments focus more on solving those immediate problems of today rather than to solve the anticipated problems of the future? In my opinion, the anticipated problems of the future is more important than the immediate ones since it's tightly associated with our future development.
Admittedly, since immediate problems of today will affect us quickly in many facets, government should pay enough attention to some emergent immediate problems. For instance, flood prevention and bird flu are some of the emergent problems that government should be aware of. When it comes to flood, it causes great damage to the district along the river as well as people living by side. After the flood, people should spend months or even years to rebuild their homeland and get fully recovered from the terrible disaster. When it comes to bird flu, every time it bursts out, it causes millions death of people. In this case, the government should act in time to kill those potential fowls which may get infected with bird flu in order to control and minimize its effect. Hence, for emergent immediate problems like the above-mentioned ones, the government should take measures to solve in time.
However, besides those immediate problems, there're much more anticipated problems for us to deal with, which are related to the sustainable development of our future world. Take the coal for example, its forming is a complex process. At first the leaves fall down on the ground and after years, it becomes part of the mud. And after a even long period, the leaves are no longer what is was before, they are reverted to what it is originally : coal. Thus, it's necessary for us to realize that the process of how coal forms requires a quite long period and the government should take measures to control the use of coal since it's to some extent a kind of limited natural resource. Therefore, for this kind of anticipated problems which are associated with future sustainable development, government should pay much attention to and take measures in time to deal with them.
Moreover, if it is not well controlled, this kind of anticipated problem of the future tend to form a vicious circle, in which every term of the problems are interconnected and interdependent. For example, if one is infected with AIDS, it leads to problems like poverty and crime. What's worse, if one is growing up under such circumstance, he probably cannot get well educated and will experience lifelong problems. On the other hand, poverty results in and results from the environmental pollutions while overpopulation leads to environmental problems and poverty as well. As long as one term of the circle is not well resolved, the remaining terms will constantly be affected. Hence, it's necessary for the government to focus more on this kind of anticipated problems of the future.
To sum up, anticipated problems of the future are essentially as important and emergent as immediate problems of today since if they are not well treated, it may result in a vicious circle and affect our future sustainable development. In final analysis, government should focus more on anticipated problems of the future rather than immediate problems of today. |
