The speaker asserts that government should preserve publicly owned wilderness areas in their natural state though these areas are often extremely remote and accessible to only a few people. I completely agree with this assertion that the government should take actions to protect these valuable resources from destruction because it will not only do good  to the environmental balance and science research, but also is a good way to leave these precious resources for its better use in the future.

First of all, the wilderness areas help to maintain ecological balance. In such virgin areas, plants and animals could live freely without fear that they will be killed. And the chain
of creatures will be in good conditions without human interference so that some endangered species could go away from extinguishing. Accordingly, these areas, containing
large tracts of forest, play an important role in the global climate. An apt illustration invovles the rain forest in Brazil, which is regarded as the lung of the earth because it is very critical in regulating the climate. However, the rain forest is disappearing at an astonishing speed due to the excess loging,  which has, more or less, resulted in the irregular phenomena such as El Nino and seaquake. Thus, it is really urgent for people to keep these wilderness areas in their natural state, or else we will suffer great loss in heart and wealth.

Secondly, the wilderness areas has a significant meaning for researchers of biology and geology. With less human destruction, these areas keep back a relatively virgin state so that they are good places for scientists to seek the answers of the origination and  evolution of life. And only in these areas could the biologists have the chance to study the habit of life for some rare animals. In the same way, these areaes provide many precious minerals for geologists to study and utilize. In this view, we should take good
care of them for scientific research.

Moreover, in a long-term point of view, it is a wise choice for us to maintain these wilderness areas unchanged due to the low-level technology of exploitation and the inefficiency of use. Let us take the area of Siberia in Russia as an example. It is well known that Siberia is very rich in many kinds of natural resources, including most of the minerals listed in the periodic table of elements, let alone the adequate fresh water and woods. In the past, the Russians learnt the lesson of great pollution and waste because of their exploit at will. Now they have managed to keep themselves sober-minded in the matter of utilization. The president Putin has signed a document, which aims to develop the Siberia area in a gradual process, to do what they are able to do in this period, and leave the left to the descendents. As a result, the resources in this area  receive rational use nowadays.

In sum, we have responsibility to preserve wilderness areas for a better future. And our government should establish relevant laws to protect these areas from destruction as soon as possible.
