ISSUE154 - "Both parents and communities must be involved in the local schools. Education is too important to leave solely to a group of professional educators."

In this issue, the author states that since education is too crucial, it can not be left solely to a group of professional educators. Parents and communities should be involved as well. As far as I am concerned, both parents and communities can be helpful toward the education of children in some aspects generally. But it is the functions rather than the identifications of parents and communities take effects in the children's education.

To begin with, the purposes of education is to inform children the basic knowledge, furthermore expertise in certain realms as well as fundamental manners to contribute to the society  and survivein it. Hence, to accomplish this goal requires people to teach children the academic and knowledge and social manners.
as professional educators, they have specialized methods, knowledge and time to teach children. Their effects in children 'seducation are undeniably essential. Nonetheless, do education necessitate the involvement of parents and community as claimed by the author? It utterly depends on whether they have the capabilities of assisting achieving the goal of education. Empirically speaking, parents care about their children, are legally and financially responsible to them as well as being familiar with them, which endow parents certain privileges in educating their children. Since, they also want what are the best for their kids, parents will not procrastinate to do anything beneficial to the education of the children. For instance, a large number of parents in China send their children to expensive art classes, sport classes and all sorts to offer them better education in every aspect. Also, parents have legal and financial responsibility on their children. Education should at least lead children be avoid of crimes, which is the major part of the legal accountability parent ought to fulfill while parents are the economy support of children, paying school fees, providing daily expenses, and so forth. Therefore, it is more of inevitability instead of suggestion that parents are part of children's education. Meanwhile, Parents spend a large quantity of time with their children spanning the period of growth, which enable them to know about their children better such as figuring out their talents or tendencies. Consequently, education can be designed with aims to certain children. Nevertheless, there are a small portion of parents who can not be classified into the general type. Some of them may care little or barely know about their children. What’s worse, some of them may be serious alcoholics or drug addicts, thus they could exert detrimental influences on their children. In that case, the title of parents does not equal being helpful to their children’s education.

Second of all, communities serve to create study-friendly environments for children’s education. Communities as a gather of people with common interests can offer the locale for group study, raising children’s incentive to learn. For example, in a Mathematics club, children who like mathematics are able to interact with each other, communicating about their learning experiences or solving some recondite problems together. Communities as a group of people who concern about children’s education can spend efforts to assist education as well. By improving the education-related facilities in the neighborhood of or within schools such as enriching the source of reading or enlarge the number of computers, children are more readily to access to information and knowledge. By organizing some scientifically informative events, children can be more aware of the theories and knowledge involved in common phenomena. By holding art exhibitions, children are able to increase the sense of art appreciation. Yet, some communities like certain classes charging lots of money are in nature business organizations in disguise of educative unites, the ultimate purpose of which is to earn maximum profits instead of assist education. It is boggling to imagine these communities can contribute a lot to the children’s education with the distorted goal.

In conclusion, parents and communities can both be part and parcel of children’s education depending on their actual effects among it not the seeming identifications. They can contribute in certain realms just as above-mentioned. However, the professional educators are still a major chunk of the staff to attain the ultimate goal of education since they possess professional expertise and experiences which the majority of parents and members of communities hardly have.
