不過個人感覺tier 2 master, 仲要不是core academic master (since MBS MSc Fina & Business Econ don't have the core adv econ theory course, not to mention about mathematics)的話, 就算distinction想上tier 1 (e.g. UK till Warwick, Tinbergen, SFI, ...) 的PhD難度極大, next to mission impossible.........因為很難和tier 1 school自己的core master (e.g. 就以LSE為例, EME, Econ, Fina & Econ)爭, 就算和其non-core master (e.g. 各類finance professional master)爭也很成問題. 關鍵有二: 1. math+econ底不夠, 有時候好些research topic的paper根本看不懂, 2. 校名and thus network, 能找到強推的難度直線上升...
套磁固然必須要, 不過........人家本校直申的很可能已經自動套了...e.g. already do one's master thesis under the professor...

tier 2 的問題就是$$了, as you say.

恩，TIER1就看中奖，这种CASE主要我真见过。。。UK这边老师有时候收人胃口真让人难以捉摸。。。他如果真只是想读个FInance PHD，本校档次的拿个AD，我目测还是很有希望，钱的事慢慢解决，或者家里直接支持或者走CSC就搞定了

Tier 1: yup, outlier always are there, I just mean don't expect that, but still can try and see if lucky enough.
Tier 2: $$的問題其實是一個大問題
1. 家裡支持? well.......三四年的tuition + opp cost, 一個2nd tier PhD值不值是一個很大的問題. Of course may go US...
2. CSC? umum, 有回國工的限制吧?

1.一般只要不太弱，不属于倒贴导师的，减免部分学费的，Department应该很有希望给，大概除了伦敦，3，4年，准备50w大概省点能撑下来，期间Tutor，一年大概1500-2000磅Extra Income，但BSCHOOL的TA比其他学院高大概40%，据我目测，如果拿到什么RA职位，生活费就全出来了。。

2.CSC，回国（没说只能大陆）服务两年，如果找到合适理想的工作，可以选择违约，赔钱，就相当借个短期低息助学贷款吧；当然回国，也可以去港澳台找Finance类的工作，机会应该不少。。所以期间Trade OFF，需要LZ自己权衡。。当然纯FInance的PHD，School的牌子感觉比我们这种Math的更重要。。做金融城市也是太重要；还有如果本身在国外待了4-5年，到时2020年以后了，回国也不失为一个好选择吧

嗯嗯，谢谢建议！！！还以为帖子沉了就不会再起来了。
个人也觉得申请的难度很大T.T
在大神看来，如果想拿offer的话欧美都没希望么？...
因为家庭这边能没有反对我再去读博都算不错了（毕竟是女生，和父母抗争了不少），学费之类的估计不会被支持吧= =|||泪目。所以能拿到有奖的phd或者research master是最好的了T.T，tier1的phd基本上都没在考虑了，主要是就像另一位楼里的大神说的那样，数学和经济的背景看起来真的太弱了，MBS的牌子也不好用。现在就想申和MBS 同档或者Mres的有奖的那种，感觉...都不知道该怎么办了

所以依大神看？现在这个情况如何是好啊...

就像你说的，学费是个大问题。家里能在我的抗争下不反对继续读博都是好事了（父母加上一大堆亲戚都是说女生啊，读什么啊T.T），所以还是想拿到offer。

求问，Mres拿到offer的可能性大么？Mres大多是要GRE成绩，所以正在准备10月考。

推荐信的问题，network确实是个大问题，之前的导师之前在我自不量力（T.T）的申SFI的时候有大概暗示下说，如果我申的是和曼大同档的学校，他可以写一封很好的（这大概是强推的意思？还是我误会了= =），如果申SFI这种顶级的，他只能尽可能写好一点...

另外MBS的F和F&BE上的课程几乎一样，上课都一起上的= =每学期有一门F的必修我们没有但可以选（我们有一门必修他们没有也可以选）。第一学期选了F的derivatives第二学期选的是AF的一门必修。（这三门和F相关的专业，可以说都是可以互选的，特别是FBE和F的，每学期三门必修就一门不一样，但可以互选在唯一的一门选修上）

所以这个情况如何是好啊？....T.T

Well...Two way:

1. Go for a tier 2 phd in uk. Admissions should be not a problem (should get at least one) and then try to fight for funding from TA/RA and pray for a tuition wavier. The downside is indeed u may risk some funding risk: u maybe not guaranteed of any funding at the first semester or second...
Avoid those from econ departments and try those from businesses school and department of acct and fina since lack of math and econ.
maybe also should ask if ur prof "i also wanna gamble for a UK top school. Which one u ha e the better connection?" And then find a suitable research faculty there to write to...

2. Go for a good master in EU in economics (with a decent finance arm) with a fast track PhD. Of course I only mean countries with really low tuition fee like france public school or the German or swiss or Austrian one....e.g. PSE Frankfurt Zurich. Downside is....this take longer time then UK, maybe two more years.

Of course u can also try US, and maybe also HK. maybe also some other EU tier 2 program.
If I were you, I will do 1& 2 together, since you never know if you get the admission or funding or not. GRE is a must for route 2, but Q is easy and no one care V.


P.S. I do know that MBS master F&BE is very similar to F........since while I did my application, I once wanna apply their MSc F&E (which have core micro and macro), but find that they close it, and thus I skip MBS since no much program there are good preparation for economics and finance (if business school phd finance (and accounting) should be still arguable)

嗯，我开始也是这么打算的，PhD和Mres一起来，时间长短的话虽然我父母很急，但我没所谓的，也想好好再打下Econ和Math的基础的。就是最近看到大家讨论有点慌了。
