Should public figures expect to lose at least some of their privacy, when seeking a public role, or should they try every effort to keep it? In my view although people are often interested in the privacy of public figures, it is their rights to keep it. Therefore people should focus more on the excellence of public figures in their work, not in their private lives.

Public figures are easy to attract attention from people, because of their preeminence of achievement and the frequent exposure in the media. From the psychologist point of view, people would be paying more attention to public figures, consciously or unconsciously.  People's minds would be implanted by the image of anyone who is constantly reported in a newspaper. Admit it or not, this is true for everyone of the world. As a result, people driven by curiosity would try to seek more about those public figures, including their private lives. Moreover, some tabloids live on reporting public figures' private lives, which would always bring sensational news to the world, and increase sales dramatically. Therefore, it is very common for people to pay attention to public figures' privacy. Yet it is entirely wrong to do so. Public figures should not allow their privacy to be exposed under the sun, or even "expect" their private lives to be reported.

The first argument which I find compelling is that privacy is the social right of any individual, protected by the law. Anyone who is exposing others' privacy is conflicting with the law and justice. Public figures as citizens of a country should undoubtedly be protected by the law, regarding their privacy. Therefore it is evil for people to pay attention to the privacy of public figures, and a form of defiance to justice and jurisdiction for the reporters of the tabloids to report it.

The second argument which is very convincing is that over-emphasis on public figures' privacy would bring harm to the whole society. Public figures commonly have outstanding abilities in their work. Thus people's attention is attracted to those figures, and focus on the excellence of theirs initially. However, people gradually begin to seek for the private aspects of public figures as time passes by, because people want to imitate those public figures in order to succeed in the same way, or because their curiosity is aroused. Nevertheless, it is a form of unnecessary sacrifice for public figures to expect to lose their privacy, in return to the success of their work. In fact, this issue has become a barrier the society set for an individual to become a successful man. Therefore, it is a form of expense and loss to the whole society. We should only pay attention to the success that public figures achieve, instead of their private lives.

In the final analysis, public figures could easily lose their privacy in today's society. However, they should not "expect" such things to happen. Instead, they should call for their rights protected under the law. We ordinary people at the same time should focus merely on public figures' achievement in work, not their private lives.
