All nations should help support the development of a global university designed to engage students in the process of solving the world's most persistent social problems.
At first glance, the idea that establishes a global university supported by nations all over the world to solve the world’s most persistent social problems seems feasible. In such a university, sociologists from all the countries work together to study the problems and the governments can acquire solutions to these problems from a unique source. But after explored in depth, this plan probably would not be viable.
What are the world’s most persistent social problems? Different nations of different development level have distinct perspectives. A country in civil war may be annoyed by how to get peoples of different ethnics to live together peacefully; A country of poor may be concerned with how to improve the people’s life quality; A developed country might consider to enhance the democracy system more than to boost the food productivity. Therefore the problem that how to plan the research tasks confront the administration of the university. If all the problems are selected as research projects, the cost would be tremendous and how should the governments share the cost? If only parts of the problems from different countries are studied, what makes the difference between a global university and a university that funded by their own country and has academic cooperation with abroad universities? Consequently the selection of research tasks will be impedance in the process of building the global university.
Granted that the research tasks can be chosen smoothly and finally the tasks are finished successfully, the second problem is the results of the research projects probably can’t be applied generically as solutions to the problems. There are almost 200 countries in the world, also maybe multiple ethnics in a single country. The root causes of the problems could be same, and the appearance of the problems might seem identical, but the subjects of the problems are various very much, they have their own life styles, culture backgrounds and religions. The Muslim would take it for granted that to execute a married woman who had sex with other man is reasonable, while westerners would consider it as crime, now how can the solution come out from the global university settle this social problem? This is only one simple example, and it can be believed that there must be many similar situations exist.
In sum, a global university maybe can come out solutions to economical problems or environment problems, but for complicated social problems, the solutions, if they had any, would not be applicable generically. Alternatively, to encourage the research on social problems by universities independently and to promote the communications between these universities will be more appropriate.
All nations should help support the development of a global university designed to engage students in the process of solving the world's most persistent social problems.
At first glance, the idea that establishes(同位语吧?好像缺主语) a global university supported by nations all over the world to solve the world’s most persistent social problems seems feasible. In such a university, sociologists from all the(删掉the) countries work together to study the problems and the governments can acquire solutions to these problems from a unique source.(from a unique source用得不好) But after explored in depth, this plan probably would not be viable.
What are the world’s most persistent(persistent:持久稳固,坚持不懈。用在这里似乎不太合适) social problems? Different nations of different development level(用复数) have distinct perspectives. A country in civil war may be annoyed by how to get peoples of different ethnics to live together peacefully; A country of poor may be concerned with how to improve the people’s life quality; A developed country might consider to enhance the democracy system more than to boost the food productivity.(developed country 是一个广义的概念,不是仅仅指民主制度的落后。这句话讲得不太合适) Therefore the problem that how to plan the research tasks confront(confront 的助于似乎不应该是problem) the administration of the university. If all the problems are selected as research projects, the cost would be tremendous and how should the governments share the cost? If only parts of the problems from different countries are studied, what makes the difference between a global university and a university that funded by their own country and has academic cooperation with abroad universities? Consequently the selection of research tasks will be impedance(impedance一般用作物理术语,意为阻抗。换一个词,比如:impediment, obstacle等) in the process of building the global university.
Granted that the research tasks can be chosen smoothly and finally the tasks are finished successfully, the second problem is the results of the research projects probably can’t be applied generically as solutions to the problems. There are almost 200 countries in the world, also maybe multiple ethnics in a single country.(后面这半句读着不顺,再考虑一下) The root causes of the problems could be same, and the appearance of the problems might seem identical, but the subjects of the problems are various very much, they have their own life styles, culture backgrounds and religions. The Muslim would take it for granted that to execute a married woman who had sex(had sexual relationship) with other man is reasonable, while westerners would consider it as crime, now how can the solution come out from the global university settle this social problem? This is only one simple example, and it can be believed that there must be many similar situations exist.
2 那一长段说理论述首先是看起来很啰嗦,意思不明了;其次这段说理和你后面的例子关系也不大:The root causes of the problems could be same, and the appearance of the problems might seem identical,但你后面的例子更本没有体现这些。
3 总的来看和第一段好像差别不大,都是在说不同的国家有着不同的问题,无法协调统一。
In sum, a global university maybe can come out(come out 出版?显露?用得不好) solutions to economical problems or environment problems,(前面没有说economical and environment problems, 这样总结不太合适) but for complicated social problems, the solutions, if they(they指代不清) had any, would not be applicable generically. Alternatively, to encourage the research on social problems by universities independently and to promote the communications between these universities will be more appropriate.
