Congratulations! I am pleased to inform you that you are offered a 25% FTE assistantship for the Fall 2008 & Spring 2009 (August 16-May 15, 2009) semesters with a total stipend for the hire period of $7500.00. This assistantship may be a combination teaching and research assistantship depending on the needs of the Department and your desires. ASU compensatory stipends are paid bi-weekly. Last year the first payroll was on August 31. It is our intent to continue your assistantship for three additional years subject to satisfactory performance as judged by the faculty member responsible for the project/assignment, availability of funding and proof of satisfactory academic progress towards completion of your degree.
In addition to this assistantship offer you have been selected to receive a $12000 Fellowship for the 2008-09 academic year. This Fellowship will be applied towards your tuition/fees thru the Student Financial Aid system. Please be advised that fellowship funds that are not used for qualified education expenses are taxable income to you. The taxable portion of your fellowship will not be subject to withholding. TAs/RAs are considered to be residents for tuition purposes. The value of this benefit for nonresidents is $11,693 for the 2007-08 academic year. In addition, TAs/RAs with an appointment 25%-49% will receive a 50% reduction in the resident portion of their tuition if hired during first week of the semester. Please note that this benefit will be prorated according to the individual’s hire date. Based on the general graduate tuition of $6227 for the 2007-08 academic year, the value of this benefit for students enrolling in 7 or more hours is $3114.
