TOPIC:ISSUE 177 - "The study of an academic discipline alters the way we perceive the world. After studying the discipline, we see the same world as before, but with different eyes."
Outline:
1 after education we are capable of discerning different ideas(study history)
2 through education of natural science we view everything not its surface but its internal
3 the study of cross-discipline give us a better understanding of previous discipline
4 we see a different aesthetic world by the study of arts
At the modern changeable era, humans are continuously and actively perceiving the changeable world and gaining the new ideas and values about the surroundings. Admittedly, we have passively accepted numerous experiences or theories of our ancestor, nevertheless, I strongly concede that by studying of an specific or unspecific discipline we modify our visional angles toward the world.
As intellectual neophyte, we always polarize what we see as either right or wrong, or either good or bad. However, after being educated we gain the capacity of discerning a broader spectrum of ideas and perspective and understanding some theory or assumption more palpably and comprehensively. With the knowledge of philosophy, a student who studies history would treat the idea of transcendental metaphysics which was criticized by Kant---one of the greatest philosophers more cautiously. The relationship between the consciousness and the material became more functional but less abstract to serve him or her to speculate the deduction of the mind of the greatest figures in history.
Besides, through the basic education of natural science, we understand more original theories which can explain the occurrence of some phenomena in our nature. In other word, our increasing abilities of perceiving the world have not been restrained to a narrow extent of observing but extended to analyzing and resolving, which plays an more significant role in the studying of science and our human's prospective. A student of environmental science, for instance, should not limit their capacities of observing the pollution and detriment of our global environment and warn us what we should do. Actually, through further studying of the functions such as how the waste exacerbates our pure water, they could purify the polluted water by creating efficient methods of depositing the deleterious materials and cycling the cleaning procedure. Thus, by further our education of science not only do not our knowledge restrict on the surface layers but also bring us original ideas to make it practical for civil utilization and other fields.
On the other hand, through cross-discipline's learning we obtain more experience and knowledge of skill's application and synthesis, moreover, better understanding of the correlation among distinctive disciplines brings us a completely novel cognition of the discipline learnt before. Referring in both biology and chemistry, a student of bio-chemistry could apply the HPLC technology to speculate and depict the constitution of a biological molecule. Through the systematic studying of mechanics and automatics, students can synthesis the theories of mechanic power and water-line manufacturing into a perfect one.
Finally, education in arts alters forever the way we perceive the aesthetic world around us. Without the education of arts people merely view a monochromatic world which is dispelled by either white or black. And without arts, humans only have a monosyllabic world. For instance, an earnest art student learns not just pigments and shapes but also historical influences and aesthetic principles. Without the knowledge of aesthetics we cannot perceive the beauty of Van Gogh's sunflower. On the other hand, after education, an informed listener of popular music heart not just the same pleasing sound and rhythms as their naive counterparts, but also the rhythmic meters, harmonic structure, and compositional form used by the great classical composers centuries ago.
To sum up, through education we change the visional angle of perceiving the world, we see the our history with subjective views, we improve our abilities of applying academic functions to practical manufacture and no more see a phenomena based on its surface but analyze it from its internality. Moreover, taking advantage of the study of cross-disciplines we gain a better cognition of both disciplines. In the final analysis, we develop an insight and sensitivity of perceiving the aesthetic world with the beneficial knowledge of arts.
