The University of Georgia (UGA) Faculty of Engineering has career opportunities in the area of Medical Robotics and Instrumentation.
PhD and Post-Doc positions in Medical Robotics and Instrumentation (Available Now)
We are seeking exceptional, self-motivated individuals to work with a small team to construct and test a novel minimally-invasive device to reach far inside the human body.
Research will include: mechanical and electronic circuit designs, prototyping and pre-clinical testing of diagnostic and therapeutic devices to address clinical problems.
A thorough understanding and hands-on experience of user-centered designs, electronic circuitry, programming and system control in medical applications are highly appreciated. Publication of results is also an integral part of the positions.
Key areas of research will be the following:
*Design, development and experimental validation of mechanical and electronic systems for image-guided therapy
*Integration of novel and established tools for controlling and validating accurate placement of interventional devices
*Investigation of clinical workflows and validation of developed systems in collaboration with clinical partners
We require the following credentials for the positions:
*Degree in mechanical, electrical, biomedical engineering or related fields
*Hands-on experience of engineering designs, circuitry, system control and integration, particularly in mechatronic systems
*Demonstrated capability in designs, fabrications, and testing of novel devices
*Expert use of LabView, Matlab and Solid Works or Pro/Engineer
*Previous experience in medical device R&D
In addition, the following skills and experience would be a plus:
*Solid background in MRI and RF engineering
*Hands-on experience of designing MRI compatible devices and imaged-guided systems
*Sensing systems: digital imaging, medical imaging (MRI, CT, Ultrasound, X-ray), and tracking (Seeds/EM/Optical)
*Programming experience in C# and C++
*Knowledge of the medical domain, specifically of methods and systems leading to FDA approval
Candidates will conduct research in the area of minimally invasive interventions in close collaboration with clinical partners.
The positions will be based at the Medical Interventions, Control & Robotics (MICRO) Lab directed by Dr. Zion Tse (http://www.linkedin.com/pub/zion-tse/14/33b/718) at UGA. Applications should include your Curriculum Vitae with a full publication list, up-to-three published papers or manuscripts in preparation, and a list of reference contacts (email, telephone and current affiliation) in a single PDF format. Applicants for the PhD position will be preferred with master degrees in the related fields. Applicants for the post-doctoral position must hold PhD degrees in the related fields by the time the positions starts. Selection and interview process will start in early March 2012. Please send all inquiries and application materials to ziontse@bwh.harvard.edu
