123. The best way for a society to prepare its young people for leadership in government, industry, or other fields is by instilling in them a sense of cooperation, not competition.
Surely many of people nowadays expressed the viewpoint that the most significant for young people is installing in them a sense of cooperation to prepare them for leadership in any field. It’s of course that cooperation is essential for leadership.
Success cannot exist without cooperation. It’s obvious that in many areas like farming and factory, cooperation is requisite; so many people can get what they need while paying altruistic sharing for others. However, competition can also promote adaptation, individual evolution, and upgrade. Everyone tries his best to do better, even the best because of the relation of competition. Of course, competition has both beneficial and harmful effects. Biologists prove that competition has promoted the evolution of species, they point out that only those strong enough can survive and adapt to the environment, while the weaker be eaten and disappear finally. Individual ability can be revealed by competition, it can also improve the efficiency of the society. We can enjoy comfortable serve and high technology product as the result of competition between different companies for they want to gain more profit. Of course we cannot ignore the side-effect o the cooperation. Limited resource and conflict of interest lead to exceeding competition. On the other hand, blindly pursue the result of competition lead to compromising event, for example, there are a few athletes who were caught using medicine in the match in order to boost their performances which not only broke the fairness of the match, but also made a bad effect on their bodies. So there should be a balance between cooperation and competition, which sets up cooperation while emphasizing competition.
However, the real success is not based on either cooperation or competition only, but the personality of youngsters, such as the structure of knowledge, self-awareness, optimistic attitude, a clear sense of purpose and so on. No one can gain a lot without the help of favorable characters.
If only concentrating on success, while ignoring how to cultivate the personality may lead to the distortion of one’s nature. The leadership must be healthy both in body and mentality, otherwise, it will affect the public, as well as the image of the government.
Success means to transcend oneself flaw of personality, as well as to improve self-cultivation. However, this stage needs both cooperation and competition in other to approach a perfect and successful leadership finally. |
