4-121“At various times in the geological past, many species have become extinct as a result of natural, rather than human, processes. Thus, there is no justification for society to make extraordinary efforts, especially at a great cost in money and jobs, to save endangered species.”

Do we have to make great effort to save the extinct species? Many people believe there is no such duty for human to do it, as it is the natural law that decides which one is to exterminate or survive. However, it might be a complex issue depending on specific circumstances. When seeing the extinct pace is much more rapid as human came into being, I think it is men’s obligation to protect endangered species.

Admittedly, the natural law is the dominator of species of the entire world. Many species died of unfit living conditions long before the appearance of human. Dinosaur is an example. The most convincing reason why dinosaurs would disappear in such a short time tells us that an asteroid hit the earth thousands of years ago and the dust covered the sky for some decades, which prevented plants receiving plenty of sunshine to grow up. As the biggest cold-blooded animals living in the earth that time, dinosaurs died of insufficient food and chilly weather. But mammal survived. Thanks for the small body which needed relatively less amount of food and for the warm-blooded nature that would do them much good when there was no sun aloft, they got through the terrible time and founded a new era of history. Clearly, we can see from the instance that it is the nature law helps mammal replace reptile and become the dominator of the world. In this case, men had nothing to do with the situation, thus we don't need to make any effort to revive the disappeared dinosaurs even technologies might provide enough support in the future

That we don't have the duty to mourn for the disappearing of dinosaurs doesn't mean that we can deny our responsibility for the faster and faster pace of the extinction of species. First, as the dominator of this planet, we haven't loyally fulfilled the duty of protection God place on us, but destroyed the earth on the contrary. Dunhuang, the hinge of Silk Road a thousand years ago, had been deserted long before the PRC was founded due to the terrible living conditions such as water shortage and unbearable torridity, just because all the trees had been cut down for wood and all the rivers had been blocked for irrigation. Many species living there died of the disappearing of their habitats rather than move to another comfortable place to survive as men did. Clearly, we should pay for the disaster aroused by us, otherwise there would be no habitats for plans or animals, which is quit to the contrary of the purpose of societies demanding a circumstance of harmony: not only human themselves, but also the entire world including lots of species. It is why there exists a need of mercy for the living things, which are the essential elements of a perfect society.

Second, when we think about human's own good, spending money on the protection of endangered species is not a waste of money and energy. As the top part of the food chain, we need many plants and animals just for the necessary food to maintain our living materially and there is also a need of diversity of the species making the food chain more reliable and stable.

Finally, maybe we are not willing to see when our children, or children’s children ask us what a sheep is, we need to get a book and tell them:" you could see from P15, because we don't have any one alive now." When solitude substitutes lots of species and becomes human’s company, the process will not reverse, that is, we will be solitary forever.

To sum up, due to the reasons discussed above, I believe we should pay many efforts to protect the endangered species. Every 5 minutes, a species leaves us forever. When I finish this paper, more than 5 species could be only seen in the book in future. But most people still can't see that when we are enjoying the happiness of modern technologies, we are digging a tomb of our own.
