As the old saying going, interest is the best teacher. As far as I am concerned, interest is morecrucial than other aspects for scholars and researchers. Thereby individualinterest should be set free from appraise whether make a contribution tosociety or bring profits. Without a appropriate atmosphere for developindividual interest, we can hardly enjoy the modern life which is rest onscience and technology development.
“Where there is a will, there is a way" one of the famous inventors, Thomas Edison had told us. InEdison's life of colors, he invents thousandsof new things, and he did more than tens of thousands of experiments. Edison's educational level is extremely low; the secretfor his success is a curious mind, a kind of instinct to try again and again. It is his interest in his work and his courage of the boundless energy made thepeak of his career. On the contrary, parts of scholars and researchers mightlack the inspiration of personal interest by confining their research tobeneficial social contributions; they keep their eye on the profit, and thenlimit the free thoughts and flaring ideas. Thus great innovation might bedismissed in apathetic neglect.
Science is explore the unknownareas of human, which means scientist themselves
are also not very sure what they woulddiscover, so, there is no information about what impact on society theirdiscover will have. In fact, most of discoveries were found by chance, or werethe production of a series of other research. For instance, Sir AlexanderFleming, who is best known for his discovery of penicillin, which came aboutaccidentally in the course of research on influenza. His carefully observationremind him a new finding, here from open a whole new epoch in medication .
However, the purpose ofindividual interests by scholars and researchers should not consist ofselfishness and evil that will harm the legitimate rights of others. Inaddition, the interests should be true of moral and ethic commitments. Such asclone human being is unacceptable to the convention of society, scientists mustobey it.
Without personal interests in discovering difficulty, there maybe no momentous development of the whole society. Thus, we should holda free academic atmosphere for scholars and researchers, regardless of whatcontribution can their studies make to people.
